My Growing Disappointment

Read More: Discipline

I just got home from having a few drinks with some old co-workers from when I was an engineer, and one friend in particular continues to challenge me on an intellectual level, resulting in a great conversation.

It's the type of conversation which forces one another to dig deep into the purpose we serve in this world... and unfortunately, a conversation which will interest very few people.

Recently, I have gone to sleep and awakened in a very pensive state -- reflecting on many things.  One of those things, has continued to haunt me for the better part of the past 3 years.

As I've come to understand effective marketing principles, I've realized that the effectiveness of these principles are based on the predictable nature of human beings.

As I've come to understand more about our human condition through some very powerful personal development programs, I've realized that the principles for a better life taught in these programs are also based on helping people break out of these predictable patterns.

As I spend more time personally coaching clients in their businesses, I've come to realize that many of their troubles in turning a profit have less to do with their business and more to do with themselves... and again, the solution to their issues begin with first recognizing the predictable pattern which they've fallen into.

I explained to my friend tonight, despite what our ego may tell us, the problems we face in our daily lives are NOT unique.  Most people and their problems are far more common than they'd like to think. In fact, most of us tend to fall under a set of behavioral patterns derived from very similar life experiences we have at a young age.

Of course I seem to be simplifying the human condition here, but nonetheless learning to recognize this in others and most importantly, within myself, I credit for much of my success in recent years.

It's this level of self-awareness and the humility, which has come from recognizing that my problems aren't anything someone else in this world hasn't experienced already, has provided me with a sense of peace when confronting issues.

I tell myself, "The solution is already out there, because someone has already faced this and overcome."

And with this calm mind, I am able to seek out the solution, find it, apply it and grow more confident in my ability to accomplish whatever I've sought out to achieve.

My disappointment in all this lies with the reality that most others do not want to share this view, nor believe that they too are capable of achieving anything significant in their lives.  Believing in themselves to this level carries a heavy burden... it requires that you actually achieve what you've sought out to do with no excuse for failure.

I've spoke to old friends, been on dates, met people at gatherings or even at business functions where speaking such truths will literally repel folks.  A small minority will stick around, participate and share their perspective...

We'll discuss how the leaders within our government and corporations will use our predictable nature to control and manipulate us... again, people are repelled by such ideas, with a small minority actually interested in exploring further.

It is disappointing that so few care to know about these things, which are at the core of what shapes our society and way of being.

But even more discouraging is the fact that there is little I can do to change this.  Those that are driven to do more with their lives will naturally be drawn to this type of thought and use it for their self-betterment. Everyone else already has everything they need to understand about the world they live in and about themselves to survive and be functional... anything else is simply an unnecessary complication in their lives.

Unfortunately, this "unnecessary complication" will very soon become essential for survival in the new economy, which will form in the near future. A greater burden will be put on us to be self-reliant and manifest our own livelihood, rather than depend on a "steady paycheck" from a failing employer.

Those that choose to do the hard work now on themselves, their careers and/or their business, will prosper in the future.  Those that don't, will be at the mercy of whatever circumstances present themselves during the very difficult times to come.

The good news is that the principles behind success are very simple.

The problem lies in believing that somehow we are the exception to that simplicity, because the simple solution requires us to pay a high price.

Successful people all payed a high price in time, money or both for their success.

Humility will help keep the costs down to only what is necessary.

Desire helps keep the focus on the benefits of success, not get bogged down by the price.

My hand, can't help but to smack the people who still don't get it.

"Some people are just plain stupid"

I was discussing this very topic with a friend the other day and that was his response. I hate to think that of everyone but a small part of me had to agree with him. There are those who can't see beyond what they've been taught to believe. Doesn't matter how much logic you present to them they will still only see what they want to believe.
Great article.

Total agreement with both of you!

I've tried to discuss the idea of limiting thoughts and how a lot of what happens to us comes from the way that we were raised but people just don't want to believe that, "what you sow, you also reap". Then there are those who want to try to "think outside the box" but because society laughs at the whole thing they go back to the old way and never accomplish exactly what they set out to because of their own thought process. It's a sad situation!!
Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day!

As a Man Thinketh...

Most recently when I realized after my first 45 days in business I wasn't getting anywhere near the results I wanted.
Was it my website? Was it my blog? Was it my videos?

It finally occurred to me to me I had a case of Stinkin' Thinkin'!

So,I've put everything on hold and am taking the Mike Dillard Alpha Program until I feel "right".

I think the sad fact it that probably only 5% of the people have an interest in any type of introspection and personal growth.

I too feel the chill around people if I bring up a D&M topic.
(D&M is an old term for Deep and Meaningful. God forbid!)

Wait a minute! Do you think that's the same 5% that succeeds online?

Our problems are not unique

Awesome post, Ferny!

It wasn't until I learned that my problems are NOT unique that I started accomplishing more.

Really, it all started when I decided to read a bunch of literary classics a few years ago that I began to see the universal experiences we all share.

Sincerely,
Derek

It's hard to admit...

...to ourselves that we have actually 'created' our lives -- the good, the bad, and the ugly -- with our thoughts and the actions those thoughts produced. To find 'the culprit,' it's much easier to point our fingers at others (our environment) than it is to look in the mirror. Realizing that we must change our way of thinking to change our lives is really simple... right? Simple but NOT even close to easy!

Ferny talked about 'nothing new under the sun' and learning our own lessons from what others have already learned. This short Napoleon Hill clip seems a fitting addition to this discussion: http://www.betternetworker.com/videos/view/personal-development/mindset/...

Conscious Choice

"Those that choose to do the hard work now on themselves, their careers and/or their business, will prosper in the future. Those that don't, will be at the mercy of whatever circumstances present themselves during the very difficult times to come."

Such an excellent post, Ferny, and a reminder of how important it is to not only have an open mind as we all adjust and adapt to continually changing conditions, but to reach a hand out to those willing to grasp it as well. Thoughtful and provocative... thank you!

Some will, some won't

Hi Ferny,

I recently wrote an article very similar to this one. I totally understand your frustration when you want people to see how they can help themselves just like you have, but they won't.

They won't for different reasons: lack of confidence, insecurity, comfort, among many other excuses.

http://renegadenetworknews.com/some-people-will-most-people-wont/

I enjoy your articles. Likeminded people will attract one another, it is the main principle of the law of attraction. We see the world the same way, while the majority do not.

It is our "crusade" to help those that don't. It is up to them, and only them to change themselves and propel themselves into the success stratoshpere.

Thanks again!

Ain't that the truth.

The secret to success in any business is self improvement self development and discipline.
It is about investing in your self, that’s the the true secret to success.

I Have No Choice....

This article reminds me of some of my co-workers too. They are all to quick to say, "I have no choice..." That possibility does not exist in my life. We all have a choice and we all have to pay for the choices we decide to make!

Thank you for sharing this great article!

Just a different perspectives

Hooray for those that refuse to think outside of the box. If we were all alike, then none of us would be all that special. We need different insights and perspectives. It's what teams are made of.

Just Decide

Excellent Article!. We all have a choice, we just need to make the decision to change and then work on it.

Thank you for sharing this.

Give yourself a break and quit beating yourself up!

too many times we assume everyone sees what we see or have...... which is a life, a career of our own choosing.
Nothing will penetrate those who are not ready to make that happen

I've been guilty of thinking that changing you( the prospect) will benefit me, we all know this but do we truly practice it!

Being afraid to reach out and talk with people about my struggles was a admition of failure, and so my prior programming was to change or blame someone else,

also beating myself up and quitting thousands of times and feeling guilty for doing so, for not making progress in my business

The single most important skill I work on is myself and thought process, this has taken years to get this far and I will continue that journey for as long as I live

I can;t stress enough the importance of giving yourself a break, let go of the thinking that everyone sees what you or I see, show them a solution then move on, its up to them !

Don't Give Yourself and Excuse

You are so right that so many people have come face to face with the same challenge but the key word is...they have overcome it. Just because 97% of marketers are not successful doesn't mean it is an excuse to quit and feel it is normal. Keep plugging along and don't quit no matter what and your results will be tied to your action.

The Buck Stops Here!

It took me years to realise this and stop going on about how everything bad that happened to me was unique to me. Well finally I realised "Hey Lady, Bad stuff happens all the time and it is how you deal with it that counts" Once that sunk in,I was in the right head space. Then the way out appears to go around, or over, or through problems. The power is in us!

Perhaps there's more

Wonderful article.

I lived all my life until 2004 in a small African country where there were no forms of social security. No benefits of any kind. We paid for all our costs. Until 2000, there was also much less government control or interference in business, so yes in some ways there were more opportunities, but also more risks.

Each individual sunk or swum by their own efforts, you had to succeed at your business or in a job, the consequences of failure were extreme, unless you had family support to bail you out,you either bounced back very quickly or you had no option but to move to a country in Europe that did have a social support system.

The point I am trying to make is that perhaps the very success of the USA (and other western nations) up to the late 1990's has led to a sense of entitlement and the erosion of the values that were responsible for that success.

Thanks.

we only try to Care

I am just learning but starting to understand the truth, I was sharing with a dissatisfied TAFE teacher a cupple of days ago about what I am Starting to Learn and do on the net, he was so discourage about his work and surroundings that he wants to take 6-12 months stress leave, this man has such a wealth of knowledge in the construction industry I suggested he learn how to share it on the net and get paid for it, well the look of horror and fear on his face, you know the rest, so I politely said see you later..

The Human Condition

Damn Ferney...let me think of the right words here...wait, you just said them! "Those that choose to do the hard work now, their careers and/or their business, will prosper in the future. Those that don't, will be at the mercy of whatever circumstances present themselves during the very difficult times to come. Every obstacle we come across or every stinking roadblock in our way then just keep going. You can either go through the roadblock, over it, under it or around it. Just do whatever it takes and DO NOT give up!

You Can't Do It - But Someone Else Can

Great words of wisdom Ferny. Very truthful indeed. Persistence + Determination = Success. That has always been the formula for people to model after.
However, most people have always been told that they CAN'T do it, rather than they CAN do it. CAN'T is an easier solution to resolve a problem, CAN requires much more effort, time and diligence. The rewards are greater, but this roadmap is not for the faint of heart.

Welcome to the Real World Copper Top ...

You know Ferny, I know exactly what you mean.
To speak of such things, to give any inclination that you speak from an enlightened state of mind, aware of the duality which abounds in the plight of this world's existence, will most assuredly garner a cold shoulder from whence the common ear turns away.

And yet the "conspiracy theorist" in me if you will, cannot help but see the maneuvering taking place in this "new economy" that is counting on, banking on the fact that what you are speaking of remains true and indeed an embedded mindset in society. The dumbing down of society. Satiation of the expectancy, nae, the demand of freedom.

And as you say, those who see the truth ... those who "unplug" and refuse to be a spoke in the wheel of those who seek to trample your inalienable rights as a child of God, will be the hope of the future and in an increasingly minority segment of society across the globe.

My hope truly, is that those who have their ears, eyes and minds open to the revelation of this truth make every effort to help others see the truth.

Now if that sounded spooky or maybe religious, or whacked out to some ... well, all I can say is ... Welcome to the Real World Copper Top.

Life Is A Decision!

Our problems and life issues are very similar and universal in many ways. The responses of individuals are what set each person apart from the others.

Great insights .. grateful for all you share!

Old Souls

Ferny, That's a truly great article. For most of my life people have looked at me weird and wondered what planet I was from. But there are those of us that are old souls who resonate with each other.
Our challenge is to live the life that inspires and draws others to live beyond the status quo. And our challenge is to have compassion on those that do not have eyes to see yet. What we are being will either cause enlightenment or war.

Thank you so much for sharing your brave heart with the world---it's a vulnerable choice.

Atlas Shrugged -- and the world slept on...........

Mike Dillard mentioned he read the book "Atlas Shrugged". It's over 1000 pages -- and kind of boring for the first 200 -- or so. But it outlines the world domination planned by a few. This is not a theory -- but fact.

My family says you worry to much -- as they walk away from me.

Wake up and own some silver -- in your hand. This paper you call money is going to dive 50% suddenly. Count the banks -- as they are shut down every week 7, 10, 12 -- all spread out around the country.

It will be fun (not!) when they put the extra tax on online businesses.
