20 awesome keys to Success
- Be grateful – you are involved in an opportunity that can give you the financial freedom to achieve every dream you can possibly think of. In other countries, there are people who work harder every single day than you will ever have to, just to try and have a basic standard of living – put things in perspective.
- Seek out positive thinkers – there are too many dream stealers out there, and they’re usually the people who have never seriously tried to make a success of their own lives. Guard yourself against these people as if their words are actual physical weapons. Instead, seek out positive people who are striving for (or have already achieved) success – they will encourage and support you instead of dragging you down.
- Ask corporate staff for support – your network marketing’s corporate team are there to assist you. Always treat them with respect and courtesy, and enquire about the support they can offer you. While they don’t have the field experience of building a network marketing business, they often have time, resources and even money that must be used to support certain associates – usually, it’s just the associates who make themselves known and request the support who receive it.
- Be excited – one of my own mentors says that ‘90% of success is simply being excited’. Being excited changes your physiology and informs everyone you connect with (even by letter or eMail, your excitement still comes across) that they better pay attention. Excitement is contagious!
- Be a product of the product – you’ve heard this one a million times, right? But are you doing it consistently? If your company offers multivitamins, you’d better be using their range and not an alternative brand. If you’re not using the products yourself, how can you expect to convince anyone else to spend their money on them?
- Always learn – never assume that you know it all or that you’re too busy to spend time learning more. This is a deadly mistake to make. If you have committed to becoming successful, you will need to invest in your education and personal development. Change your bedtime novel for a network marketing book, treat your car as a University on wheels by listening to audio programmes from the greats.
- Stop blaming – you don’t need a bigger home office, a different upline or more time. People have succeeded in worse circumstances than you. Stop making excuses and just make it happen.
- Be committed – get rid of that little voice in the back of your mind that says things like ‘well, if it doesn’t work out, my job isn’t that bad’ – you must be 100% committed to your success, to the extent that failure is simply not an option.
- Plan your time – always know in advance the hours you will spend on your business tomorrow, and the actions you will take. Keep a to do list and check things off as you complete them. Don’t stop work until your list is completed.
- Limit distractions – take your business seriously. Have a designated work area if possible, and close the door to that area when you are working. Make sure friends and family know when you are working and that they can’t ring for a chat or pop in for a coffee. Turn off the TV, put the dog away, and focus on your to do list.
- Increase your energy – before starting work, get yourself into a state of peak performance. Exercise, turn the music up, dance.
- Be professional – be on time (if you’re not five minutes early, you’re late in my opinion), ring people when you say you will, send eMails or letters promptly, dress appropriately (I like to dress for the other person’s comfort – a suit isn’t always the best option), turn your mobile phone off when in meetings, make sure your car and house are clean and tidy if people will see the inside of them, don’t spread gossip or talk negatively about other people.
- Don’t listen to criticism – being a critic is the easiest job in the world and every business, product and person in the world has critics. Trust your decision to believe in your company and it’s products.
- Prioritise – following up with a prospect who has expressed interest is more important than tidying your desk, walking the dog or making another cup of coffee. Don’t put off the tasks that intimidate you – you’ll feel a huge sense of accomplishment by tackling them first, and you’ll realise that actually they’re not as scary as you imagined
- Don’t criticise other network marketing companies – just as you’re convinced your company is the best, so each associate is convinced that their company is the best. You won’t convince anyone to leave their company for yours by criticising theirs (and if you did, you have a fickle team member who will probably leave your company just as easily), you just make yourself look mean and unprofessional.
- Take massive action – it’s not good enough to just talk the talk – commit to a massive action plan for 90 days and see how your business grows.
- Watch what people do – don’t listen to what prospects and team members say, watch what they do. Just because they tell you they are serious, that doesn’t mean they actually are. Are they putting in the action to prove they’re serious? Don’t waste too much time on people who say the right thing but make no action.
- Know your goals – write your goals out each day to keep them fresh in your mind. Make a dreamboard and have it on display in your home.
- Risk failing publicly – tell everyone your goals. Some people will help you achieve them. But there’s no bigger motivator than making yourself accountable in such a public way.
- Have fun – sharing quality products and an amazing opportunity to earn extra money is hardly a tough job. Enjoy what you do and, when you start to feel nervous about making a phone call or presentation, remember what people around the world are having to do to earn a living. Smile, you’re in a great industry!
