A choice between Heaven & Hell....

While crossing the street one day a networker is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in Heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

“Welcome to heaven, says St. Peter. “Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We have never had a networker around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.

“No problem, just let me in, says the networker .

“Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.

“Really, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in heaven, replies the networker.

“I’m sorry, but we have our rules.  And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course.

In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other networkers cheering for him.  They ran up to him, everyone is shaking his hand, and reminiscing about the good times they had.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne. Also present is the Devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises to Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

“Now it’s time to visit Heaven?

So, 24 hours pass with the networker joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

“Well, then, you’ve spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now choose your eternity.

The networker reflects for a minute, then he answers: “Well, I would never have said it before, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in Hell.

So, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.

“I don’t understand, stammers the networker. “Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?

The devil looks at him and smiles.

“Yesterday we were recruiting you … today you're staff!

Hmmmmmm.....how many of us have felt as if we were recruited into MLM hell?  Could we even be guilty of being a recruiter?  In my recent studies, I believe there are many wandering MLM hell and do not even notice it!  They are ignorant to the fact that they are there. I might even humbly admit I was in  MLM hell denial! Taking one for the team, gritting through my teeth and smiling anyway, faking it until I made it and all that jazz.  My own eyes have been opening about MLMs across the board and I am learning day by day, what the truth is and how to lead the way for others.  Have you ever found yourself in MLM hell too?  I hope you can find your way out of hell.  I know I am...at least I can run my business now with open eyes and exactly what to watch out for.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am grateful to be a member here!

The secret to getting into MLM heaven ...

Alicia,

As I looked at the 10 articles listed on the "Articles" page, there were 9 articles with a total of 3 Thumbs up and zero comments. Your article by itself has 3 Thumbs up and 5 comments (well, now 6) and 34 reads.

Know what the biggest reason for that is? Sure, you tell a great story. But what has gotten you into MLM heaven today is your title. It's tough to resist. A good title will ALWAYS give you a free ticket into MLM heaven.

I had to read it to the end

Alicia,

Cool story. Had me want to read it to the end to "see what happens."

What we forget is that this business is built on recruiting. I used to think that "recruiting" was a dirty word. We don't recruit we sponsor, right? But network is about sorting through people, qualifying them and chosing those with the best potential.

There will always be people who will paint a rosey picture of this business, suck people in, take their money and show them the phone book... "Go get 'em, kiddo!"

I would rather blow off someone in the first or second contact and tell them the truth than take them into my business knowing in my heart that they would never make it. It does me no good and it sours those people on the industry.

Thanks for a thought provoking tale!

Great story

As I was sitting there reading your story I was thinking to myself what a terrible way to get someone to join a company. We shouldn't have to lie or use smoke and mirrors to make our prospects think that they are going to get rich quick or without putting forth any effort. Someone told me that some MLM organizations will make the icing on a cake look so sweet and delicious but when you bite into the cake itself it is bitter and distasteful. This is bad news for the legit MLM organizations out there because now all MLM systems are considered to be scams. It's like who do you trust now?

Re: A choice between Heaven & Hell..

Hi Alicia,

Very well said.  I've heard the story before (I think it was using a politician).  But it certainly applies to a network marketer.  We need to get beyond the point of only looking after ourselves and saying anything to make another sale.  I think that if we all genuinely try to help people and give them value, we will be able to sleep better at night and have far more success in our lives.

I wish you the very best!

Great Article Alicia.....

This could not have been said any better.  Don't be fooled or deceived by those that appear to be the "best in the business."  Do your homework FIRST and then make a decision.  How could anyone think that by going to HELL you are going to end up having made the best decision....only those with their eyes closed will do something like that...
