ADVICE FROM SOMEONE WHO LOVES ME

There are sometimes harsh things that need to be said to our children, or our mentees, or anyone that we care about.  They can be rough but they are necessary to a true understanding of the world and how we fit in it.

First lesson is: Dont expect life to be fair.

It is just NOT fair - what did you do to be born in the country you were born in; what did you do to deserve good health, or not; how come what you invested in tanked with the last Wall St. tip?
Life is just not fair and you need to make your own breaks. 
You will be doing well if the only meaning ‘fair’ has to you is something you pay when you get on a bus (fare).

Second lesson is: Don’t  let others push you around.

In today’s world, with our laws and even playing field (not the same as ‘fair’) you have just as much right to do what you are doing and to succeed as anyone else....provided what you are doing is legal and ethical.  Napoleon Hill (my guru) says that anything not built on a good honest foundation will blow away at the least test.

Third lesson is: Solve your own problems.

Its ok to get some help and support from others (in fact essential at times) but by coming up with your own solutions, you will develop a competitive edge.  Stay alert to newer and better ways of doing things, but the old Asian saying, which I remind myself of frequently, says: “ A wise man keeps his own counsel.”  That doesn’t mean you don’t support and encourage others too.
