Are You Astounding Yourself?
Thomas Edison was an optimist who saw the best in everything. He once said, ”If we did all the things we were capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.” It took him ten thousand tries to find the right materials for the incandescent light bulb, but he looked at those failures in a positive light. He figured he was gaining new information about what didn’t work, bringing him closer to a solution. He never doubted and remained positive that he would eventually find the answer. His belief could be summarized by his statement: “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
Edison never would have achieved such success as an inventor if he hadn’t been such a positive person. Take a look at the lives of people who have achieved lasting success, and quite possibly you will see that they almost always possess a positive outlook on life.
If you desire to be an effective leader, having a positive attitude is essential. When it comes to the daily grind of life it helps to remember…….
~Your attitude is a choice. Be a motivator. Don’t wait for someone else to motivate you. No matter what happened to you yesterday, your attitude is your choice today. Or no matter what happened ten minutes ago, you have the choice to change your thoughts.
~Your attitude determines your action. Denis Waitley, family life expert addresses this issue: “The winner’s edge is not in a gifted birth, a high IQ, or in talent. The winner’s edge is all in the attitude, not aptitude.” Attitude is essential for success.
~Your people are a mirror of your attitude. Who you are, is who you will attract. Your positive attitude and enthusiasm will fuel yourself but also inspire others to press on.
Much unhappiness in life can be due to the fact that we are listening to ourselves rather than talking to ourselves. What kind of voices do your hear? When you meet people, do you tell yourself they’ll let you down? Or when you face new experiences, does a voice in your head say you can’t do this or you are going to fail? If you are hearing negative messages, you need to learn to give yourself positive mental pep talks. Feed yourself the right “food.” Remember if the mind is strong and conditioned to win, you can do almost anything you want.
I don’t know about you, but for me I need reminded everyday to keep a positive attitude. This article or any others are probably more for me than anybody else. But I have a feeling none of us are perfect, so a good poke is a good thing, right?
Keep a positive attitude, do what you can and don’t give up! Astound yourself.
To your success,

Thomas Edison...deaf and dumb???
When very young and in school, Thomas Edison was constantly asking question after question. His teacher told his mom he wasn't very bright (shame on her). Mom was angry and pulled him out and home-schooled him.
He was also deaf from an accident at a young age. He had been working on a train and was running to catch it and a man pulled him aboard by his ear!
Still he was the greatest inventor of all time.
great info
Thank you Carolan for sharing that bit of info about Edison. It makes me appreciate what he accomplished even more! It also goes to show you that a child can do very well being educated outside of our public school system.
