Are you sabotaging your business?

That question should be asked out loud and often! Hopefully, the answer is a big fat NO. But, few people realize that how they approach the day will determine it 's outcome. For example, if I wake up and say something like- "I really need to sign some people today", chances are pretty good that I won't sign a soul. The reason I won't is because I will come across as needy or anxious.

This really never hit home with me until I started doing personal development.I was told in the beginning by my coaches that personal development is probably the most important aspect of being a great sponsor. But hey, I was way too busy building a team, I was signing people left and right, I did not need to do any of that stuff! So I continued on, not doing any personal development.

Then it happened! I wasn't signing people up, worse yet, I was not teaching the ones I did sponsor anything either! So, one by one they dropped off. Soon, I had maybe 2 people that stuck around. Why? Why was this happening? Because, I was not growing as a business owner, sponsor or anything else. The negative thoughts started- I can't sign anybody, it must be the leads! I blamed my downline, my upline and everyone arouind me was responsible for this shift in my business!

I called my coach, told her I am hanging it up. I cant do this anymore, it is torture...I am broke and can't continue with this business.

After my tearful tyraid, she calmly said to me " have you been doing any personal development?" HUH? What was she talking about? I was doing everything they told me to do, I didnt have time for that! Then she explained to me very plainly, "the leads, the marketing plan and the company have not changed. The tools you started with, have not changed, but your attitude about them has."

Wow, she was absolutely right! I realized I just started going through the motions when speaking with people about my business. I started giving too much information up front before really seeing if they were serious about wanting the opportunity. But worst of all, I was telling them about aspects I didnt like about it! I was becoming a real pessimist, and it showed!

Hard as it was to take a real honest look at myself, it was the best training I have ever done. I dove right in, with passion like I always do. And found out some harsh realities about myself- good news is I changed all that.

If your business strts to dive downward, become aware of your thoughts about it. Are you blaming outside sources, like I did? It is worth an hour a day to take time for your personal development.

It can be listening to music, signing up for free seminars ( business or personal), meditating and the list continues. Because I wanted to become a success like my coaches, I asked what they do.

Find something, anything that re-charges you. Personally, I love Jim Rohn. I belong to his free ezine and it gets me through the rough spots. I have also read the book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne and I re-read it whenever I am having a difficult time.

And of course, Mike Dilliards' Magnetic Sponsoring  video's and newsletters are fabulous.

Take time out from building your business and make time to build a better you! You will only become a better networker.

Blessings to all,

You Are So Right!

It is so true.  It all begins with you and how you view the world.  When you say I need prospects to sign up, you put off the vibe that you're needy and people are looking for leaders to join and not needy people.

It is so important to anyone in this industry to truly commit to developing themselves and spending time daily with themselves in someway as you suggest.  It helps to keep you balanced and focused.  I have found that comes first and foremost with me.

This industry challenges you in so many ways from fear of picking up the phone, to needing people to sign up, to handling objections, etc.  And having a self development program that works for you helps you to overcome these challenges.

Great article

Very good info...I wish anyone going into any business venture would take that advice. It's got to be the first step in the process of building a successful business.
