Are You Treating Your Business As A Business?

......with a press of a button, you'll make XYZ.." Unfortunately the truth is totally different.

It is like anything else, there are principles that needs to be followed. Usually, people think I just press a button and that's it, money comes in to pay for bills, the way I am living. They don't think it takes the following below.

So let's imagine a scenerio, and you're really taking it as a business. Someone has made an appointment with you and they visit your place. The meeting is at your home. They are really up for it because they saw on some advert, "with a press of a button..you'll make XYZ."They've seen that a lot on the internet and so, they heard you say, "traffic, leads, online business.." and they think, "alright! Yeah man! That's what I am talking about.."with the press of a button I'll make XYZ in no time! I'll be swimming with Dolphins in no time.

Note, my dream is not swimming with Dolphins. I just used it as part of this scene.

You Got A Plan? No Way?
They step into your office and just then, they look up at your wall. They see a chart. They see a big board. They see goals...a PLAN. Ok, maybe not personal goals but you get the idea.

"Erm, that's a plan, right?" They ask.
"Yeah, goals and what I am heading towards, and..."
"You mean you planned things out? PLANNNED! Like, putting down on paper, and planning it out?"
"Yes, it's a business. Why, something wrong mate? It's what successful people do. It's what anyone would do to know where they are going.

You Got A What? Your Kidding me!

They sit down and just then, they see you open a diary.

"Cough...ahem...you...you...got a diary, with dates, times of meeting, and.."
"Yes," you reply, "it's important to stay organised and not be distracted."

You kind of wonder if you're the only one who thinks you need a diary to run a business. You've met a lot of people raving on online business, network marketing but many don't have a diary. Maybe it's just you or maybe, you're running what you do as a....business.

Now Hang On A Minute! You Got To Do What?

You've asked them questions and then you share the facts, that it will take one to apply a different mindset. To read books. To have a mentor. They already sliding down the chair as if something heavy is weighing down on them.

Maybe it's the leather settee and you slapped too much shine to it. Or maybe, they just heard you say a word that they didn't expect to hear in Network Marketing, MLM and having you online business...

"I got to do some..WORK? But I thought the program, that software, that system will DO EVERYTHING for me, with the press of a button."
"You still need to do some work."

You might try and get some water for them because you see they are about to faint.

Whatever You Heard...
Whatever anyone might have heard or thought, it is a business. It is like anything in life, when you want to succeed.

  • You need to really know what you want out of the business.
  • You do need to have a plan, and it is either on the wall or written down, sorted.
  • To have a system in which you are disciplined and to focus on the work at hand
  • You will need to learn and invest in is your own self development and this is ongoing
  • Technology, softwares are great but you will still need to do the work. A lot of work!

And there's more where that came from.

Now, I didn't write this article for anyone to get scared but if anyone new, thinks that they can to slam dunk $200 or $500 and sit back because the computer, the traffic that was there will continue, think again!

It needs work. You will need to roll your sleeve, be patiant, look at the long term aspect of it and learn. You will face challenges but challenges you can overcome with training, with mentorship and with your own passion in knowing your reason why.

Let Me Put It This Way
In a job, usually, you'd go to work and everything is taken care of, in running the company. You don't need to run the company. You don't need to be getting clients in. You don't need a plan even. Maybe an action plan or some time sheet on what you're doing, because you have to show what you did, for the money you got paid for.

But, when you finish, you get paid at each month. Right? You don't need to worry about the company, about their profit margins, about the team and distribution, marketing, consistent planning, evaluation, testing, what works or what doesn't. Right?

You just get up, in the morning, brush your teeth, get ready, go to work, sit on that chair ir do what you do as your role specifies and maybe more, but then when 5 or 6pm is over, you go home. You kind of know, your wages are coming not that jobs are secure. But you know, you did work..and you'll get..PAID.

The Business Way
One may do work, sow the seeds, and not get paid....today. Hey, if you're lucky like some, you do get paid but...sometimes that doesn't happen straight away. Sometimes you find that luck was due to MASSIVE action. They had true faith and went for it, none stop.

If that shocks anyone, then my friend, it's the fact. You see, many do business because there is a bigger reason why. They know they are going to have to do the work from day one. They know it takes more than employee attitude.

They know they need to be more disciplined and whatever they put in, is because they want it to succeed. That they do what many won't do.

Many quit because they don't have a true reason why. When I say quit, I mean quit, stop, do no more business and no more in other companies. Really quit! Some find another company they can work with and find their way to succeed.

The Attitude, Your Reason Why
It's starts with our attitude towards business. It's the begining of our steps. It is the perception of what business is to us. It is those baby steps that grow strong and help us to apply with 100% comittment. For some who have not sorted this attitude yet, it may a big climb but for those who have, it is just a matter of time to succeed, when applying what they need to do.

What I Should Call This Article Instead
I should really title this article as "What's Your Reason For Wanting To Run Your Business?" It is one of the first questions I ask. Many do not know the answer. Many find it on the way. Others wither away because it was some fad, a name, a recognition phase, or a fantasy not a decision.

The X is Your Reason Why. Forget going towards Y And Z until X is sorted. Or Y and Z won't even surface until X is prepared to run it as a business and with a purpose called..WHY.

This is a Business, Not a Hobby!

Well said, Adam.
So many people don't take this business serious.
They expect this to be easy, they don't understand
that it requires skills, time and consistency...

I appreciate you,

Great article!

I like your style of writing a lot Adam, and agree with everything you said.

I've posted a couple pieces of content lately having to do with the same topic. (working!) If you have the time to check them out, I would appreciate your opinion/review.

Take care, and keep putting out these great pieces.
