Be Courageous

It is natural to be fearful of doing something when we cannot know the outcome. It is a risk that we might fail that frightens us, a concern that may be devestating to us. That fear can make us reluctant to step out of the box and do what we think we should, in spite of the risk.

Sometimes we have to reach down deep inside our souls to find the courage it takes to do what scares us. Yes, we may risk humiliation and teasing from family and friends. We may risk relationship probelms with those who cannot see our vision. We may risk money and reputation when we take on something we believe in that others think we are crazy for doing. Whatever the risk, however, we know deep inside that we must do it any way; inspite of the fear and risks that we may be taking.

I had these same feelings and experiences. Perhaps my story will help you overcome your own fears and concerns. Knowing this may help you feel free to go after your dreams. Having a vision and doing what you feel you must is what separates people like us from others. Yet, at the time, you wonder if it is worth it and worry that it may not be. I had this same concern as well.

I knew I had to do something with the knowleged I gained from an amazing experience I had in March of 2000. I actually saw, in my mind's eye, the opportunities that were there for me to succeed. I saw the "land of my potential" (which later became the title of a book I wrote but has not been published yet). The land of our potential is in the mind and what we limit ourselves.

I wrestled with the idea that I had something important to contribute to society. I wondered if people would take me seriously when I did not have impressive credentials. Who was I anyway? I was nobody special, and I heard people as guests on television saying the same things I said in my book. I worried people would think I copied others. Then I realized success principles are known to anybody who understands what it takes to succeed in life and business. Therefore, I knew that what I said in the book was on target.

Also, I was challenged by my close family and friends. They teased me, told me I was not smart enough to write a book, and said that I was selfish and mentally ill because I would not put down writing the book. I took their concerns under advisement, that NO ONE would buy my book and that I was selfish or mentally ill, and wrestled with it. I came to the conclusion that I needed to do the book and that, if I helped just one person, it would be worth it.

After the book was published (under the title: The Treasure Box Series, Volume I: Peace, Joy, and Happiness) and people bought it, and after strangers told me the book helped them a great deal, I knew I had made the right choice. I may not be successful in the eyes of the world, but I know that I am successful in doing what I said I would do. This is the type of success that I wanted, publishing the book and helping people, and that is what's important to me and to the people I helped.

You cannot be concerned about what people think or say when they do not understand your vision and dreams. You have to wrestle within yourself and know that what you want to do is the right thing to do. When you know that you MUST PURSUE it, then you must. In addition, you need to consider what success means to you. Is success measured by the world or by what you want to accomplish?

Yes, going after dreams is a scary proposition and you will likely ask yourself if you can really do it. Self-doubt is a normal feeling in the beginning. You have to overcome that doubt and find the courage you need to go ahead with it.

Moving ahead when you are afraid is easy if you have an outlined plan of what you need to do. Then you do something EVERY SINGLE DAY that works toward that plan. Putting one step in front of the other and constantly moving forward is what it takes to overcome fear and worry.
