Biz-Op First Impressions and a $2.00 Whistle!

Something learned about 1st impressions of the online appearance of Biz-Op's and marketing tool offers.

In 2005, I was on vacation with my wife in McKenna Washington, located in the shadow of Mt. Rainier in the Nisqually Valley, and a five minute drive from Ft. Lewis Military Base.  McKenna, a small town close to Yelm, is located on an old Gold Rush Trail. It has a clear, cold and fairly wide stream running through it that flows down from the melt water of Mt.Rainier, that has "black sand" along the banks.  Black sand is usually an indicator that gold flake or nuggets are present in the underlying rocks in the water. The whole area is absolutely beautiful!

I had some time to spare one day before going out to dinner, so, gold pan in tow, I took a 20 minute walk into McKenna. Always on the lookout for that one "BIG" financial business opportunity "home run", I would  stop and talk to the local town residents and business owners. I also made a few attempts to pan a gold nugget or two out of the stream!

As I walked down first one side of the main street, then back up the other side, I came upon a gentleman sitting in the front yard of his home in this business district, conducting a yard sale. As I curiously looked over the items he had for sale, I noticed a brass whistle in need of some Brasso, brass polish cleaner .(For those having never been in the military, Brasso is used to clean brass emblems and insignia's on military uniforms). I thought, well, on first glance the whistle might not be of any real use or value, but would be nice to add to a collection my children would eventually inherit, and maybe eventually discard as useless.

As I usually carry plastic in my wallet in place of bunch of cash, I asked the gentleman how much he was asking for the whistle, while pulling out three $1 bills from my wallet. He stated that he was asking $5.00 for the whistle, as it had the word MILITARY stamped into the surface.   I told the man that I had $3.00. and would give him $2.00, as I was now thirsty and wanted to get a bottle of water. He agreed, and I bought the whistle.

When my wife and I returned to Ohio, I showed the whistle to my neighbor, whom for privacy issues we'll call Stan. Stan is a member of the Ohio Military Reserve. Stan exclaimed how cool the whistle was, and would like to impress his commander by giving it to him as a gift! Knowing Stan, I kinda figured I'd be trading down for something?

I wound up trading for an old violin his aunt used to play. As Stan works on restoring classic hotrods in his barn, the violin was covered in a quarter inch of dirt and bondo dust. The tail piece was off, the bridge had fallen inside the violin body, the varnish had faded, and it was missing a string. It had no case, and was in pretty rough shape!

Eight months passed, and I was in doubt as to my ability to bring the violin to life. But after alot of effort, frustration, phone calls, searching, repair, polish and general TLC, the violin came to life, and I purchased a case to insure it's continued existence.

Now today, after alot of practice, patience, and perseverance, that violin is starting to play beautiful, satisfying melodies for me!  I named my violin,"The Two Dollar Whistle"!

What you just read is a true story! And, I feel there is a moral attached to the story that can be applied to Internet business and marketing.

The moral?  When you are presented with, or stumble upon an average looking business opportunity, a not so flashy web site URL, or a marketing program without alot of bells and whistles, don't wrinkle your nose up at it with a dismissive wave of your hand, and think it won't amount to much.  After a little investigation, study, effort, perseverance and time, it might turn out to be the business opportunity of your dreams, and maybe, the gold nugget that for years, you've been panning for online!

Thanks for your time. As always, I'm here to help you in any way I can!  Feel free to contact me any time with any questions you may have. I'll do my best to help you succeed!
