I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. It's absolutely imperative that you pick the right company. I don't care how good of a salesman you are, you're not going to sell a $15 bar of soap.
Furthermore, if you don't have a decent compensation plan, a company with experience and integrity, a company who's fairly young, but obviously has some staying potential, a great product, and a system to teach everyone (i.e. duplicatable), you're going to fail. It's as simple as that.
You can market yourself all you want, and even if you do get a million signups, they'll probably all quit within a month because they can't duplicate what you're doing and they can't afford to stay in business.
Pick a great company, THEN market You, Inc.
