Can You Really Motivate People to Become More Successful?
I get asked dozens of times every month by ambitious network marketers (even in my own organization) from all over the world, "How can I motivate others to become more successful?"
Now as great as it might sound to be able to motivate someone else, the answer is, you cannot successfully motivate others.
You may inspire them, but motivation for them must come from within.
Anything less than internal motivation is like spray paint on rust. Eventually, when the motivation from an event or pep talk wears off, its a person's commitment that is left over.
You cannot motivate others to want to succeed any more than you can push a rope uphill.
Truth is, a person must first want it for themselves before they will ever become successful.
If you want it more for someone else than they want it for themself, this can become very unhealthy. (for both parties)
The key then to having motivated people on your team, is to be motivated yourself.
Being self motivated is the only surefire way to reach long term success.
Being self motivated means that you don't require someone else to remind you of the opportunity you have in front of you.
Being self motivated means that you wake up every morning raring and ready to take on the day, create new relationships, market your business and show people how to get started.
Being self motivated means that you attend local events, regionals, conventions or trainings without having to be reminded that these events are taking place.
Being self motivated means that you invest in your education by reading good books, listening to audios and modeling successful people.
Being self motivated means that you take all out massive action, regardless of who believes in you, supports you or joins you.
Being self motivated means that you are inspired by your future and what is possible.
Being self motivated means being self determined.
Being self motivated requires that you are self functional.
This means that you must learn the system, how to do business and produce.
So what do you do if your prospects are unmotivated to get started and your team unmotivated to take action?
FIRE THEM and find new people.
New people who are hungry for success, will stop at nothing to get it and are determined to develop themselves into a leader that others are looking to follow.

What is Self-Motivation and why should you have some?
Hi Aaron,
I liked your blog so much I posted it on my blog.
http://tinyurl.com/3neqvj
Motivation is such a variable thing it's hard to describe.
It's differant for everyone.
In your blog you said building your business wasn't easy but it definately was worth it. I agree. It's nice to live where you want and work when you want without anyone telling you what to do.
Building a MLM Business is like digging a well. No one likes the digging part, but they sure enjoy the cool drink of water once it's dug. The catch is that you do have to dig before you can drink and it's good idea to get digging before you get thirsty.
In other words, build your MLM business before you need the income.
Keep up the good work Aaron!

Yes I agree
You can not Help others till you are happy with what you are doing with yourself. And some of us need alot of help and when it can not be you to coach them out sourcing can be great. Some leaders charge so much money to people to help them. And some leaders do it for free. I think with the right Training and all they have to do is show people change. Its called you become what you hang out with. It is a Law. so even if you do not believe in the Law Hang out with people who are loving and caring and that will help you reach your levels. Not people who beat you up and say why can't you be as good as me? Maybe not in those words. So anyone who is a 1 lever out of 10 with the right crowd can become a 10. We provide that for People for free. No companies ever mentioned. Just good old fashioned fun good motivating upbuilding peer preasure it works. Juanita
Aaron
you are right and we all have to help one another....
when people get to the top its like forget the little people.
well our group don't do that we work together and make friends.
we become one big happy family.. to me if I can help alot out there
I would do if for free..don't see that many people doing that....
So if you would like to help some that would be good too....
but you are right have to motivate yourself and then the rest of the family too.....
Another BEST SELLER!!
Hi Aaron,
Thank you for yet another BEST SELLER!! Your insight here is key to why people are a SUCCESS in their business or NOT. There are so many different facets to self-motivation...past philosophies or beliefs that were born out of ...."Do What I Tell You To Do", "It's My Way or The Highway", "Don't Talk Back"...so, the employee mindset is born...once we realize that we are the business owner and we have the freedom to choose what and how we do what we do, then self-motivation can begin! Sometimes the breakthrough of knowing WHY someone is not motivated is worth figuring out before we let them go! Of course, they have to be motivated themselves to want to figure it out!! Sometimes that is the greatest help we can give...send the team member off and get them to think about their beliefs and philosophies....Why they do what they do or why they don't!
Right on point
Aaron,
You are right on point. My team stays motivated, because of what we do and how we push each other to success. I've had my share of people that are just not motivated and don't care to be motivated. They are getting caught up in what's going on around them and not taking advantage of a golden opportunity that they have. I know that staying motivated is the key and its really the ONLY way to the top. When most people see others walking across the stage at their National Events and conferences, they often wonder, well "HOW DID THEY DO THAT"? Its called Motivation and determination. They will stop at nothing to get their. They are not shy or scared to be rejected, they want to succeed.
We sleep, eat, and breathe that philosophy. So great post! You are on point with this post.

How correct you are Aaron..
Motivation is very important to build a business, you need this sometimes just to get out of bed every day. This is something you cant build in anyone it all must come from within the individual, but you can plant the seed. That is what is so great about network marketing. We have the power to give a human life hope, sometimes just an idea or a belief system can help one to build their motivation and enthusiasm. Keep up the great work.
I wish you all well and Great Success and Wellness...

It must be my night for
It must be my night for disagreeing with every post I have seen on motivation.
I am not a fan of your suggestion of fireing people because it should NEVER have got to that point. When will people realise that you do not need to have a team of clones of yourself? Just because you are self motivated does not mean you will always get self motivated people. As a Leader it is your job to help them get self motivated and as for outsourcing that work thats just a cop out from doing something you should do.
Ethically you have persuaded these people to join your team you therefore have a moral duty to support them and help them to a stage where they have been through whatever training programme you have. Once they are at that point then there are other ways you can arrange for support for people who are new to the business. Buddy schemes for example training seminars where someone who is an expert in a particuar area passes on their experience.
You also have to accept some people will be more self motivated than others. Are you fireing the people you say are not 'self motivated' because they are affecting your pocket? If so I am glad I am with the organisation I am with and my team because the idea of fireing people just doesn't come up. If they don't make as much money as others that's their responsibility and they loose out. I would loose out as well so it's actually in my interest to support them find out where the skills gaps are and point them in the direction of where they can get help. Thats way easier than recruiting someone else in their place and hoping they are self motivated.
And I don't know what Business Management School you attended but I attended the 4th best in the world and have a Professional Certificate in Management and can assure you if I told my boss in my day job it was not possible to motivate people he would fire me. Look up Leadership in the dictionary and you will see in fact the main job of a Leader is to motivate the team.
I can offer coaching to any of the previous posters who believe otherwise and prove it's possible. So I find the article quite demoralising and corrosive to a positive mindset for any new people setting out.
We Have To Define OurSelf
Everyone need to be ready to discover who they really are before they can be helped. Share in your ideas and belief on this one. It is a must if change must occur. to further buttress Aarons point see WHO AM I? and what is your calling?
