Can You Shake It Off And Step Up?

A story that was told to me by my grandfather, it is about a farmer and his old mule. I have always remembered it. It has helped me through some tough times.

One day the mule fell into an old discarded well on the farmers property. The farmer heard the mule 'braying and thrashing and making one heck of a racket.

The farmer came running out and after carefully surveying the situation the farmer sympathized with the mule, but concluded that neither the well nor the mule was worth the trouble of saving. So he called his neighbors together and explained the situation... enlisted there help to haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

At first the old mule was hysterical! But as they continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back and the dirt was up to his knees...a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back...HE SHOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP! This he did, shovel full after shovel full.

"Shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself.

No matter how painful it was, or distressing the situation seemed the old mule  just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!

Now it wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted as he was,… STEPPED TRIUMPHANTLY OVER THE TOP OF THAT WELL!... What seemed like it would bury him alive…actually blessed him...all because of the way in which he handled his ADVERSITY.

THAT'S LIFE!... If we face our problems and respond to them with a positive attitude, and refuse to give in to panic or self pity...THE ADVERSITIES THAT COME ALONG TO BURY US USUALLY HAVE WITHIN THEM THE POTENTIAL TO BENEFIT AND BLESS US!

Remember that FORGIVENESS--FAITH--PRAYER-- PRAISE and HOPE...all are excellent ways to "SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP" out of the depth of the well of negativity in which we find ourselves!

LIVE YOUR DREAMS…Do not let anything distract you from your goals.

DeJaVu

It must have been meant for me to read this one because the timing could'nt have been better. I'm in the midst of implementing a few very effective marketing strategies. But to my surprise every time things start to seem a little overwhelming something positive happens. Very nice article.

Thanks a Million

Attitude

Attitude is like our stearing weal.  Whatever attitude we have that day is how we will react to everything.  Having a positive attitude will give us positive results.  Negative attitude will give us negative results.

Some people in the morning say "Good Lord it is morning"

Or we can get up and change the words around a bit by saying "Good Morning Lord".

Powerful, powerful metaphor!!!

That was an awesome story and I dare to say that it will stay with me for the rest of my life. That is a powerful way to look at any trial and tribulation.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Thanks so much for this powerful, enlightening story.
