Consider a S.M.A.R.T. plan in MLM in 09'

As we settle in for another 365 days it is important to learn those lessons from the previous year.  It has been said that "Procrastination is the thief of time", how right they were.  We keep making promises we know we'll never keep.  Hand's up, how many of last year's resolutions did you actually keep?  If we want this year to be different we have to think differently.

The SMART acronym is used extensively within the substance misuse field however I think the qualities it possesses can be transferred to other facets of life retaining the same core benefits.

Specific:  Goal set.  What do you really want to achieve this year?  It's not enough to just want it badly.  If time management has been your achilles heel this past year then this should be reflected in your goals.  Such as getting up a bit earlier in order to priortise your day.

Measurable:  I feel that this applies to self.  If an individual wants to compete and measure their success in that manner, by all means.  A different angle could be tackling more than one project at a time.  Multi-tasking is a fantastic buzz-word but it can dilute your focus and make it harder to stick with.  You can't manage what you can't measure.

Achievable:  As human beings we can wax lyrical about what we won't do, we must learn to change our language.  By talking in terms of what we will do.  For instance, "I'm not going to be so critical of other MLM people" instead say, "Today I will look for something good in all MLM people".

Realistic:  There's a great line in a Dirty Harry movie, Clint says, "A man has got to know his limitations".  It must be applicable to you.

Timebound:  Review, review and review some more.  Learn to trouble-shoot, when to change direction and when those goals have been met so you can move on to the next challenge.

If we can implement our own SMART plans this year I'm sure we will find our next gear in our MLM development.

Abundant friendship

You have to be SMART in all areas

Hi Carl, the smart acronyms, i remember them from my working world, and yes I agree they are transferable into all aspects of your life.  The main things are being so realistic and is it achievable, if you are passionate and feel it can be done it will be done.

Great article reminder, its more or less second nature for me now, and as the new year is here its been put into action.

Thank you Carl

Now that the excitement of the new year has dwindled our focus has to shift to the "here and now".

Hope You had an Awesome Holiday & New Year

Allow me to thank you for such a strong acronym to set gaols and staying focused. I teach the people I work with to review at the end of the day everything they did for the day and record their results, then at the end of the week also do a weekly review and then quarterly and yearly. This is to stay focused on mapping and geting results needed to reach their goals. The point of mono-tasking and not multi-tasking is so important. We find that if you control your settings ( your inputs - phone, people walking in, faxes, Emails, the time bandits of such) the quality of your projects improves 4 fold and is completed at lighting speed. I so much like doing a project one time and doing it right, than having to keep doing over again and having the time loss. Thanks again, enjoyed the post.

Take Care,
