Do You Know What You Really Want?
When I first started my home business, my upline asked me to complete a goal worksheet. Seemed easy enough....but suddenly those blanks were not as easy to fill in as one may have imagined. In my younger years, I was full of dreams and ambitions but suddenly I could no longer see any of those dreams. So, many of erasers later, I came up with (1) I knew I wanted to work from home but everything else was very flexible in my mind. So with the initial homework assignment completed, I went about learning the steps of building my business. One day on a leadership call, one of the leaders mentioned that we needed to celebrate our successes no matter how slight they may have seemed to be. That evening, I took some time to look at where I was with the business and whoa and behold......I had met goal number!!!! In less than 30 days after stating my goal, the company I had been working with lost custody of their building and I was in fact "working from home".
Well, that wasn't exactly what I meant when I said I wanted to work from home but that is what I had written on the paper. So realizing I needed to be more specific in what I wanted, I revised my goal to "I want to work for myself from home" and went back to building my business. Sure enough as you might guess, just a few weeks later, the company I was working for went out of business all together and because of the change in the current economy I was not willing to go back to interviewing for a new position that would only distract me what I really wanted. So, I moved to a smaller and less expensive apartment and sure enough, I was able to afford with my military retirement to stay home and devote 100% of my attention to building my business. Now my first vague goal was in fact a reality!!!!!!
So with each realized goal, comes the need to add the next one. You would think by now I had learned that one must be specific. Okay so some of us are slow learners. My next goal was to have a car by the end of the year. My car my son was driving which left me with no wheels. So back to my business building I went. A couple of weeks ago I got a call to say that the car my son was using had been impounded and that they could not release it to him because his license had been suspended. Well, to make a long story short....I now have a car.....Goal number two achieved.
Lessons learned:
(1) Be specific in the details of your goal. Make it so you can feel it and see it like a movie!
(2) Learn from your mistakes!
(3) Celebrate your goals however slight they may be!
(4) Keep your sense of humor!
