Do You Really Know What You Want? Honestly, Do You?

This has got many men and women. Did it get you for a while too? Let me share something with you and maybe, you will relate to what I am about to share because this was one of the greatest battles I had to overcome and someone, somewhere might be going through it, right now.

Do You Really Know?
A young man came to a standstill. He stood before two paths. There he stood wondering where these two paths will take him.

Out of nowhere, an old, calm, collective wise man sat next to a tree. He looked at the young man and said:

"You seem lost son."

The young man replied, "well, the thing is, I am lost. Been lost for sometime now. Can you tell me where does these two paths lead to?"

The old man, smiled. You see, this was not the first time he was asked this question. No, many people have come to this place. Life appears in different forms to help us see what we need to see. Today, it is an old man who has been here, long before the human race touched this earth.

The old wise man, replied, "where do you want to go?"
"I really don't know."
"Son," said the old man, "if you follow any of these paths, they will take you to a place called - I Really Don't Know."

How Not Knowing Leads To Distraction And Lack Of Direction
Through all our lives, we ask the question, "how." Yes, 'how do we do this, how do we get. How can we climb over this challenge. How do we ever find out way out of this one. How do we get the traffic in. How do we get quality traffic. How on earth am I going to get monies for this book and how am I going to get enough to go on this course, that I really need to be on!

Instead we should ask, "why!" And 'why' will take care of how. It will take it by the hand and say, "Here! That's how!" Because when you know what you want, how will appear.

"When the student is ready...(altogether now), the teacher will appear!"

It is a question that has for years on end haunted me. Got me to stay up the many nights that have flown by. It is a question I have asked others too, "do you know what you want and where you are going?"

My questions to you my friend, is - do you know what you want? Do you know your reason why? Is it burning inside that no matter what is coming, you will not yield to it. Rather, you say,

"Come on! I've seen you coming a mile off. Been preparing for you. I am not letting go of this one mate! So bring it on!"

How A Mentor Taught His Student About Knowing What You Want
Years ago, a friend of mine shared with me an amazing story. A story that changed my life and opened amazing path of knowing.

You see, there was a great mentor. He had many students but there was one, who was very troubled. He went to search for his mentor and found him up on the hills.

The student approached his mentor and said, "I do not know what is desire? What is it? Because I want to succeed. I really do. I just don't know what I want to do with my life. I don't know what I want."

The mentor looked at his student like he never looked at him before and replied:

"Do you really want to know?"
"Yes! I need to know! Please teacher!"
"Do you trust me with full faith to do what I say?"
"Yes."
"Then," Replied the mentor, "Follow me and trust me."

The student followed his mentor down the hill and towards a river. The mentor walked right into that river until the water touched his chest. He asked his student to follow him. The student remembered that he must have faith and so he stepped into the cold river, and walked straight to his mentor.

"Are you ready for the answer?" Asked the mentor.
"Yes teacher. Tell me."
"Alright then. Here is the answer."

The mentor grabbed his precious student's head, grabbed the hair and pushed his head into that water. The student struggled. He didn't know what to do. He waved his hands and tried to grab his mentor but couldn't do it. Just when he thought, that this was the last day he would ever see the sunset and start a life filled with meaning, adventure and purpose....his mentor let go.

The student raised his head fast and gasped for air. He couldn't believe what his mentor did to him. Before the student could say a word, the mentor firmly, and with authority, asked:

"WHAT DID YOU FEEL?"
"I...I wanted to.....breathe!"

The Answer
The mentor then said, "That's how you feel, when you know what you want, when you have a burning desire and when you have purpose."

When we understand what this means, we understand what Ralph Emerson words mean:

“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”

And a person cannot make a decision on what they don't know yet, and what they don't believe in and what they will never give their full focus to.

When that decision is made then it doesn't matter if ones fail. They have submitted to the course. They have submitted to the path that they have chosen to take. Failure then becomes a chance to unravel the mysteries of who they are, what works and what doesn't. Not fail to quit. Rather, to find what works and fine tune it and move with greater speed and precision.

The Question Again Is This.
Have you figured it out yet? Do you know what you want? Is it burning inside of you? I ask this for a reason.

When we build a business, when we build a dream, when we build a vision, and have a team, then we know:

"People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision"

And someone who calls him or herself a leader, better know what they want and where they are going. Or everyone feels it.

How can anyone ask this question to any human being when they themselves do not know what they want? For isn't it so:

“...the universe conspires to make it happen.”

It was one of the difficult but also the greatest fights I have ever had in my life. And when you find out then watch out world. The world always makes way for the ones who know what they want and they go and get it. Always.

Knowing what you want is 95% of the journey to success.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

This is something I see people struggle with all the time, in every aspect of life and not just business.

We are so accustomed to being told what we want that we tend to forget what it feels like to truly KNOW and FEEL it in the gut.

Until we learn to find and reconnect with that core desire, that inner fire, we wander aimlessly from one whim to another, like a leaf blowing in the wind.

Knowing one's aim, or mission, pulls everything else in to alignment with that aim.

Thank you for sharing, Adam. I look forward to reading more!
