Don't Fall Into "The Chasing Trap"

Ever been on the phone interviewing a prospect who says all of the right things at the right time but doesn't mean a word they say? Or how about have them sign up in your opportunity with the Rah! Rah! Rah! Go! Go! Go! attitude only to have them fall off the face of the earth three days later?

One of the worst things you can do at a time like this is fall into "The Chasing Trap".  I think this is a huge mistake that most newbie, and even some seasoned marketers do.  And exactly what is "The Chasing Trap"?

It is when you begin to want it more for them they they want it for themselves.  When you keep saying to yourself "if I can only make them really see and really change their life" or "if I could only make them want to work their business".

You can waste so much time in your business on people like this.  This is how most of them got into the situation that they are now in.  I laugh now when people tell me that they are motivated and driven.  Don't tell me- show me.  To make it in this business you have to not just talk the talk but walk the walk.

Everyone starts out new. Most people want that first sale so bad that they only care if the person has a pulse.  Don't do that to yourself or in a few days, a few weeks, or a few months you are going to find yourself wondering why they just don't see "it".  Or what you can do to make it real to them. And why you are spending all of your time emailing or calling your team asking what happened.

Hopefully you consider yourself an intelligent person. If you saw the opportunity that can be found in network marketing and are consistently and diligently moving towards making it a reality I would say that yes you are.  Look for people like you.

Listen to how they are saying it more than what they are saying.  Delve deeper when they say they are motivated. Ask questions like- how are you motivated?  Give me a time when your motivation has gotten you what you wanted?  How far are you willing to go to do what it takes?

And if they join and then fall off the earth- LET THEM.  Don't be a chaser!  Spend your time with those who are deserving of it, not chasing those who don't really even want to help themselves out of a wet paper bag.

If you start out strong and don't ever let yourself fall into "The Chasing Trap" you will soon have a team of self sufficient, highly motivated, successful people.

Thanks for this Jen..

I don't ever chase anymore, just the opposite, my prospects don't know what I'm doing until they are through with failure, and ask me for  success! Sure beats prospecting the neighbors!
