Eat That Frog!

One simple secret to stop procrastination can be found in an old saying that goes………
“If the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning is eat a live frog, then nothing worse can happen for the rest of the day!”

What’s your frog?  I know my frog will probably be totally different than your frog.
Brain Tracy is one of America’s leading authors on the development of human potential.   In his book “Eat That Frog”, he says that your frog should be the most difficult item on your ‘things to do’ list.

What’s that thing you want to put off?  What is the thing you dread the most?
When you wake up in the morning what is it that is hanging over you head like a dark cloud.  Eat that frog first so it isn’t there croaking at you all day long, continually reminding you to eat it.

Sometimes I make a task or job bigger than it really is.  In my mind I focus on it so much, dreading it, and that is what keeps me from attacking it.  In my experience, I have found that when I finally did knuckle down and do that dreaded thing, most often it really wasn’t as bad as I conjured it up to be.  And what a relief it was to get it over with.  I then asked myself why in the world did I put that off so long!

After it is all over I feel so free and relieved.  It motivates me to make another decision to discipline myself and determine to stop the croaking of another frog.

Our ability to consistently choose between an important and an unimportant task is a key to our success in our life and work.  Force yourself to eat that frog, whatever it is.  As a result you will be much happier and obviously you will accomplish more just by having done it.

Have a great day!

Good Advice but will I do it?

I will not eat a frog unless I find a way to make it Fun.  I will not do it.  I have a good imagination I will imagine the Frog a Prince and and kiss it first Maybe it will become a Prince then I will not have to eat it. And the Prince will help me with the Stuff.  Or else I will turn what I do not like in to a Habit and do it on auto pilot.  Well Your Way is the Best way just go do it.  Pretty soon it will taste like Chicken anyway.  LOL

Frogs Princes & toads

Thanks for the article Lynn

I know what you are talking about - dreading something and pushing it around your desk all day where it interferes with what else you could be doing.

I TRY to do the dreaded task first....JUST DO IT  - good old Niki!!

Sometimes I get stuck thinking I have to do it perfectly, or just a certain way.  If I can start ...and keep going, it usually unfolds Ok - or good enough...and then I can get on with more pleasant activities.

Stay with it.

All the best

Hi Lynn Great Article. .

Hi Lynn

Great Article. . .

Eat That Frog was one of the first books I read & it really helped me to stop procrastinating & when you do you can really move forward & see that things weren't really as bad as what you thought they would be. . .

"Why what until tomorrow when you can do them TODAY"

Keep up the great work Lynn & everyone else
