Energizer Bunny Goes MLM ?

Do you fall in love with it so much that you are willing to work without getting paid or work for a lousy 1% commission?
How many years of your life and how much money are you willing to sacrifice for the love of a product?
Here is where the bunny comes in...
I use Energizer batteries. I think they are the best batteries on the market. Or...at least I believe what that commercial is telling me every time they spend big bucks to show it prime-time on the TV...
I also looooooove that pink bunny. Call me crazy but that's what I want for Christmas:
A toy Energizer bunny...
The question I always had is :
Would I buy that battery brand if it was not for that bunny running across my TV screen so many times a week?
Last year I've read a book called ''What To Say When You Talk To Yourself'' by Shad Helmstetter.
Something in that book really stuck with me...
Here it goes:
''...you can never really get anyone to do anything they don't want to do unless you use force''...........''in most of the free world, ''force'' is called advertising.''
Hmmmm...
In the MLM world we fall in love with products, sometimes we even become obsessed with them... Most of us forget to look beyond the product...and forget to look beyond the celebrity endorsing the main ingredient for 2 million dollars a year...
If we can just understand that a good product does not necesarily mean a good compensation plan...
We forget to think of ourselves. We forget to think of the reasons why we really started this business and what our dreams are.
We even forget to ask how much we are getting paid...
I'm amazed how most of us go into this business without asking any questions and throwing away all the good common sense we otherwise have...
Here comes the key question... Would I ever put an ugly apron on and work at The Home Depot selling Energizer batteries just because that bunny is so cute? Not in a million years...
Writing this made me think :
Is Energizer really better than Duracell or is the cute pink bunny deciding for me?

Great Analogy Daniela
So true Daniela. How many of us have found ourselves so enfactuated with our product, and nothing wrong with believing in your product, that we fail to look at the how the compensation plan can affect the long term success of your business. Its just got to be as good as the product right?
It is so easy to buy in to the company line "that we have the best compensation plan in the industry," when you are so emotionally tied to your product. We really want to believe it. Awesome product equals fair and awesome comp plan. It looks so good in the presentation.
But how do you really know if the companies compensation plan is really putting you in a position to be successful if you are not trained on how to anaylize a comp plan? Who out there has the experience to train you what to look for, and second, who cares enough about your success that they would want to show you for F-R-E-E?
I am thankful that I have found such a place to go and learn how to avoid costly mistakesfrom an expert with over 30 years of actual experience in the MLM industry and save years of failure and frustration and no more throwing money at expensive marketing courses.

You are very right about being in love with the product, to the point of obsession, and not knowing anything about how the business opportunity is going to pay us, compared to other comp plans.
We need to use our logic and intelligence, and get down and really understand what these companies are all about.

Daniela - I wonder if you can continue your thoughts into a 'part 2' of this article? What you have written is very important. The company I was previously with I joined 'by association'. Without going into why "I or it didn't work for me...' it AT LEAST allowed me to get clear this past summer about what i would NEED to see in another company before continuing in MLM or direct marketing. The simple act of writing in my diary what I didn't want and what I would need sat in my sub-conscious for months until, voila, one day I saw an ad... I clicked through. I did my homework for over a month, I spoke with my potential sponsor a couple of times.... and now here I am KNOWING that I am in the right place, right time and very pleased with company and my sponsor (also on here - David Allinson).
