Exploding Your Business, Starts With Changing Your Mindset On Social Networking
Realizing the True Value in Social Networking Sites
This article applies more to the newer member but really applies to all of us. I am going to point out the two extremes, the two ends of the spectrum if you will that users tend to view social networking sites. *Remember, this will be an examination of the two extremes and do not directly apply to anyone. But we all fall somewhere in between.
On the One End of the Spectrum
We have these folks that treat their friends list, or their connections merely as eye-balls. They forget these profiles are actually people and treat them as just another set of potential eye-balls that could be focusing on their referral link. For example, you may have come across a user like this that left a comment on your blog which was obvious they did not read it at all. This type of user may send you a direct message with their link. This type of user brings nothing to the table.
The problem, as dumb as this sounds it is true, is that these users tend to forget that all these connections and profiles are actually real people. These type of people obsess over numbers. They obsess over the number of reads their blog gets, the number of points they get, the number of clicks their referral link is getting, the number of members in their downline, the amount of content they have, etc. They especially obsess over the amount of $$$ they are making due to their efforts.
This type of person cares more about doing things to reach this
than they do about any of the connections they form with other networkers. Even in other sites, they strive for this guru level, this number of referrals; they literally think that numbers give you a leg up on something. But what?
Let me ask you this, whether I had a level of
or
or even
does that really make a difference to you? Maybe initially it might. But what if you read this article or found a blog of mine helpful, what then? Does it really matter how many points I have?
OF COURSE this type of points system is welcome and as I said before I am talking about the extremes here. The points here are intended to stir incentive in the members to bring something to the table and not simply to get points.
On the Opposite End...
There are the types of users who seem to have done something magical to get where they are today. They are the type of person where if you look at their blog/site/profile you think, "wow this person really has his act together, one day I want to get there..." And at least for me, I know when I look at some of these great marketers I think, "how and what did they do?"
I now know what they have done to get where they are, they tweaked their mindset just that much in the right direction.
This type of user connects with others, and I mean connects. They indeed bring something to the table. This type of user does not need me to ramble on about what kind of person they are. Instead all they need is a quote in which I carry everyday in my mind (although sadly I forget who said it).
"You can tell the true character of a person based on the way they treat someone who can do them no benefit"-forgotten genius
That quote divides these two extremes. The first type of user would simply cast you aside if you brought them no benefit (benefit being signing up for their opportunity) and the second type being the type of user who regardless of whom they are talking to will always be themselves...
Hopefully this was either entertaining, clicking on a light bulb in your head, or both :)
Either way thanks for reading.

I am in Yuwie, most people
I am in Yuwie, most people have their comments on the profile page, some have moved it to a blog entry. One reason for the move is that many people use the glittery, resource hogging, MySpace type graphics. I ended up moving mine to a blog entry too. With a bunch it graphics it takes the profile page 3 to 5 times longer to open up. Esepcially with the newness of Yuwie, it was a drag on the system. Another reason I moved it was because people were getting warnings about adult content when someone posted a "sexy" graphic on the page.
Since moving my comments to the blog and taking it off of my profile page, when someone posts something to either I get a notice since I put it to has to be approved. I get almost as many notices about comments that are actually getting sent to nowhere as I do for comments that go to the comment blog. Now if that isn't a matter of not getting to know someone and just being a set of eyes, then what is.
I've developed a group of people I send messages and comments and ratings to, and I usually respond when someone does likewise to me, but with over 1000 friends, it is like real life. I know a lot of people, I have been a bartender and worked in food businesses so had lots of face time, but still I have no where near that many real friends.
I kept trying to have everyone over there know that even though I am trying to make some money online, I am there because it is a social network. I am hoping that this is more what I want, and even though it is business based it does seem that people respond and go beyond just looking at pages and sending thoughtless comments and graphics.
