Feel Like You're Drowning In Knowledge and Being Overwhelmed?

I just hung up the phone from a new associate of mine who has just been in the business for about 2 months or so. She was so excited about the business opportunity and the things that success with network marketing can bring she did like many new people in network marketing to....she went out and bought a bunch of personal development books, ordered some information and things online, and order some supplies by our company.

Those things are awesome and great but now what she is seeing is that she is overwhelmed by knowledge and isn't sure what to do. She knows so much stuff of what to do, has read so much, listened to so many CD's, attended so many trainings, and been on so many conference calls that she is all jumbled up and feels like her head is spinning with knowledge and information but she's not sure where to turn.  Have you ever felt like that?  Do you feel like that now?

This happens most frequently with new people in our business. So, I am going to give you some steps to take PARTICULARLY IF YOU ARE NEW but this applies to everyone who is struggling with "information overload" and "overwhelmed by being overwhelmed".

1.)    Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to this business -  This list will help show you what you are good at and where you are weak at. The things you are good at are going to be your most valuable assets in the beginning. Do you like talking to peope? Are you a good writer? Do you believe in your product or service (that's HUGE)?

2.)    Take your list of strengths and learn how you can use those to increase your business -  For example, if you are really good at talking to people do research on how that can help you increase your business. How you can talk to more people, make more contacts, and expose more people to your business.

3.)    Focus on ONE thing at a time - This is a huge step because "information overload" will happen quickly and it's painful and dangerous when it does.  So, to avoid "information overload", once you choose what you will work toward improving that is already a strength of yours anyway, you focus on that one thing at a time. After doing some research and working on it for a given amount of time and getting better at it, then you focus on another thing. You do one (sometimes you can do two if you're that kind of person...but I don't suggest any more than 2) at a time. Don't try to learn it all at once. Don't try to become the "knowledge guru" or your business overnight. It won't happen.

4.)    Make a Commitment To Stick With Your Business -  Let's face it. There are going to be bad days and there will be good days in this business. There will be days you want to shout from your rooftop and days you want to jump off your rooftop.  If you have been in the business for any given amount of time you know what I'm talking about. However, one of the greatest driving forces to success is commitment. Make a commitment to yourself that you will stick with your business and you will still be working your business 5 years from now. Many people say to commit to 1 year. If you're serious then you will commit to 5 years and after 5 years then you will not want to leave. THEN, tell that commitment to your upline. Write them a commitment on paper telling them you will be here 5 years from now and ask them to hold you accountable to that. So, when those bad days come and you decide you're not going to do this anymore you can have someone (who already has your permission to do so) to call you and say "I have in my hand a commitment signed by you on this date stating you will still be in this business 5 years from now. So, why are you trying to quit on me. You still have X amount of years to go yet."

5.)    Find a Great Mentor -  A great mentor will help keep you on track, hold you accountable, and help you in determing how to utilize your strengths and then will teach you how to turn those weaknesses into strengths.
