Network marketing is not brain surgery but it does require a set of skills that need to be learned. Everyone (especially those just starting) needs a complete knowledge of how the industry works, what to look for and what to stay away from.
The average person will not be successful without these tools. You especially need to know how evaluate a company’s management, compensation plan and their policies and procedures.
The average person that joins an MLM opportunity without having this knowledge is asking to have their pockets picked. I can show you several ways a company can steal your downline and the associated income without prior notice.
What did I want to know before choosing a company or opportunity?
1. Who are the senior officers of the company? Can they stand the scrutiny of a thorough background check? What and how long were their successes?
2. What is in their policies and procedures? If they run over 10 pages long have an attorney look them over to see if they are in your best interest.
3. What are the details of the compensation plan?
4. Are your qualifications for monthly commissions stainable?
5. Under what conditions can you lose downline income?
6. How many members do you need in your team to earn $10,000 per month?
7. Does the plan stress recruitment or active retailing?
8. How active is upline support?
9. Can you communicate directly with those that are at the top of your tree?
When you have the answers to these questions you will be able to make an informed decision about an opportunity. Don’t wake up one morning and learn that you have just lost 70% or 80% of the monthly income that you worked 5 years to attain.

Very good points that have to be considered carefully, another that comes to mind is what type of marketing system is involved. A critical aspect of business that also needs to be looked at closely. So many people out there are with outfits that have outdated marketing strategies, and as a result fail in their endevours.With typical network marketing companies, you are called an “independent distributor.” Independent means “Alone,” “Solo,” “By Yourself”. No wonder according to LSU’s (Louisiana State University) School Of Marketing, along with the annual reports of many mlm companies, only 2% of network marketers earn substantial incomes. They are left to they own devices because the company provide no vision and leadership when it comes to marketing. So look for a company that have done away with the typical network marketing model and created a revolutionary marketing plan to go with a very unique product.

Those are really great tips on how to chose an MLM company. I wish I knew about them about a year ago. But that's alright. It's never too late to learn anything.
