Full-Time or Part-Time? That’s the question…
Most people get into a networking opportunity to earn extra money and intend to pursue their business on a part-time basis. This is natural, because we have to keep paying the bills while we build our longer term residual home based business. However, once we get excited by the possibilities our opportunity presents our mind quickly turns to “how can I build this full-time and get out of my regular job?”
Many of us are tempted to quit our job and go full-time in our opportunity. Why not, people are making millions of dollars, so why not me? We all want to make $100,000 per month. And we figure, well ...I'm not going to get there by working it part-time.
This is where a level head must prevail. Its ok to be excited and eager to prosper in our business, but keep a few things in mind before jumping in full-time. Ask yourself…
- What kind of financial reserve do I have saved? If you are not already profitable in your opportunity, then a minimum of 6-months of living expenses should be in the bank before leaving a full-time job and pursuing your networking opportunity (this includes no credit card debt).
- Have I been successful in my current opportunity or in past opportunities? If you are new to networking, then considering a full-time career may be pre-mature. On the other hand, if you have had success before, then you have a good idea of what it takes to succeed.
- Are you the type of person who can maintain your focus on a single goal? This attribute is critical to success. Especially with the internet, you can easily be swept up in this opportunity or that opportunity and continually question what you are doing. It is easy to literally waste 2-3 hours a day surfing around.
These are some great questions to ask yourself before you decide to quit your job and go full-time in your networking opportunity. I’m not always one to take the “safe” road, but it would be wise to make sure you are profitable before you jump.
I learned something from Mark Yarnell that I think is extremely valuable. We need to focus on our goals and CONSISTENTLY work toward achieving them. (Sometimes this is very hard for me, and I’m writing this.) Take the attitude of a professional. Commit to working your business 2 hours per day. That’s not two hours of surfing the internet or replying to blog posts or social networking like your doing right now. That is 2 hours of talking to prospects, selling your products, or talking with your downline leaders about their goals and struggles. Actually talking to people consistently every day will really compound over time. Your blogging and social networking time is on top of the 2 hours per day.
I am a financial planner in my full-time profession and I teach people regularly about the power of compound interest. Time is the biggest factor in creating a huge pile of money. The power of 2 hours a day will do the same thing for you. It will compound and grow your business if you give it the consistency it deserves….from a professional. This is not your hobby. This is your long-term plan to be free. Treat it with the respect it deserves and it will pay you forever. If you compound your 2 hours of focused time per day for a year, you will eventually have the earning power to leave your full-time job (if that is your goal) and become a full-time networker. Good luck and hopefully this gave you some inspiration to go for it!
