2. Use storm windows and make sure that all windows are shut when not in use.

3. Get out the weather stripping and caulk to seal drafty and leaky windows and doors.

These 3 simple steps will prove to be your most powerful tools. Together, these areas account for an estimated 80% of heat loss during the winter season.

4. Keep the temperature in your home set at a comfortable level all year round. If your thermostat has a timer . . . Great! Set it to increase the temperature during peak usage time in the morning. Reduce the temperature on the thermostat when higher temperatures are not required.

5. Unplug the unnecessary devices when not in use. This goes for toasters, coffee makers, electric can openers, TV’s etc. Turn off lights when not in use. Open up the curtains and blinds to let in natural light during the day.
