Here are strategies to becoming effective. You will get a lot more done, and create a lot more value

Determination combined with persistence will help you become successful. Create faith in yourself and take one step daily towards your goal.   The most important piece to time and self management is to wake up everyday and be persistent.  Keep doing the things you need to do even if you do not see instant gradification.

Here are 4 tips that will help you in your journey.

1.  Clean focus-  The effective executive. Peter Druker a very famous management guru of all time says, to work in focused blocks, long chunks, a minimum of a couple of hours.  This is a HUGE piece of the puzzle.  It’s critical to focus on one thing only, with no distractions, no multitasking, no interruptions,  do ONE thing at a time.

2. Tony Swartz leading expert says, our body operates in a rhythms. The most popular one, is the day and night rhythm.  But as humans we have several rhythms, we experience times of energy and focus, then we need to rest.  What most people do is load up on caffine/sugar and try to work through it.  This is very damaging when you don't allow the body to have its natural rhythm.

When you add this natural pulse to your 2 hours of clean focus, you will now get a little bit of a cycle.  You work for a couple of hours, then you take a break.  You work for a couple of hours, then you take a break.   You want to take clean breaks, where you become completely detached. This is very important.  Pulse, be plugged in, then be unplugged.

3. Create routines for everything that is important.  Start doing the important things at the same time everyday.  Create an onramp to the routine, then do it, then create an offramp where you go into something else.  You want to create a routine because everything you do is a routine.  99% of everything we do is some habit or routine.  It’s all a routine anyway.  All you have to do is take control of it a bit and do a routine that get you some great results.  Instead, of a routine that keeps you distracted and unfocused.

  1. 4.  Renew Yourself.  This will help you if you are a type A or workaholic type.  The idea is to renew yourself.  John O’Neal wrote the book,  The Paradox of Success.  John points out if we work a lot we get ourselves to a point where we are so over worked, and we become so addicted to it, we start to lose touch with who we are, and why we got into things in the first place.
  2. So as you are doing your clean focus, working really hard and taking your breaks, and as your creating routines for all the important things you are doing.  You also need to take time to renew.  You have to take time to go and do things that are fun, that are enjoyable, and that allow you to unplug from business for at least a day or two at a time. Ideally longer on a regular basis.
  3. If you will do these 4 things you will start to incorporate them into everything you do and you will find all the products, and services you provide are now better and have more value.  In the end, you and your customers will be getting more out of your business.
