As I write this, it's 9:30 PM and I'm sitting comfortably in my home. In this article, I simply would like to share some ideas and insights that will hopefully help you in your network marketing business, especially if you're doing your promotion and advertising online.
I'd like you to think about this: There are so many gurus out there who claim that MLM success is "easy", and that anyone can do it in this industry. Other advertisements even go as far as saying, "just join us, do NOTHING, and then get paid". It might seem crazy, but lots of people are hypnotized by advertisements like that! Meanwhile, very few networkers really achieve a certain level of success. Others spend more money than they make, and sink in credit card debt.
My stand about the issue is this: If succeeding in MLM is so darn easy, then everyone in corporate America would have quit their jobs and ventured into a home based business.
If success in this industry is an easy road, then there would be no need for training programs, personal development seminars, monthly/weekly meetings, etc. Everything would fall neatly into place, and to be honest, there wouldn't be any slight hint of challenge.
My point is, success in MLM is not easy as many people claim. They preach the "easy MLM myth" so they can get people to sign up now. These tactics might work for a while, but they don't have a long lasting effect. When people enter a business with the hope of making money overnight while sleeping, after a few weeks they will wake up to the fact that MLM success demands a lot of WORK, and it takes a while to truly build a residual income that doesn't go away.
Success in MLM is an uphill climb. In fact, the same thing holds true for any field of interest you enter. I remember an Old Egyptian Pharaoh said, "All success is equally difficult" (yes, the Pharaoh told me that when he was still alive. Today he's already a frozen mummy. From a lighthearted standpoint, I'm beginning to think that, perhaps, ancient Egypt was where we got the concept of "pyramid schemes").

great post
This is a great post. Congratulations for thinking about posting about this topic.
I also have been recruited in my network marketing business by somebody that promised me money for nothing: "you don't have to do anything and you'll start making lots of money". That makes my sponsor a person interested only in recruiting and not duplicating. Actually he does exactly what he thinks: he recruits and doesn't duplicate. Fortunatelly I had some experience in this industry and knew that you can't be successful if you don't work the business. Plus, the business itself is fantastic and the fact that my sponsor is such a person didn't matter for my decision to join the business.
What I am trying to say is this: these kind of person are only interested in quick bucks. For that reason they promise anything just to recruit. And the fools that really believe you can make lots of money without having to do anything get frustrated when they see that this is not possible and start placing the entire network marketing industry in a dark corner and "throw stones at it" :)
My sponsor now quit our business, "because he found something better, where you don't have to work and the money will start coming to you".
We always try to teach our business partners that there's nobody else that can guarantee the success of their businesses but themselves.

Good Post Verniel
Verniel,
Anyone thinking about getting involved with a MLM company should read your post first. You're absolutely right, it's not easy and it shouldn't be. The one fact most people miss is no matter what business you get involved in is if you just stay in the business long enough and show a consistent effort it will fall into place. Not all of us are going to become multi-millionaires overnight, but wouldn't it be nice to bring in an extra $40,000-$60,000/year even while you still work your full-time job.
It's taken my 12 years to get to $40,000/year, but I wasn't in a big hurry and I happen to like my job so I'm still involved with that also. MLM isn't necessarily hard you just have show a consistent effort and above all else you need to show people that you do have a business and treat it that way, they will eventually start respecting you for what you're doing. It's everyone's dream to sponsor that one person who builds the biggest organization ever within your MLM business and put you on easy street. When most people get involved with a MLM company they all think they are going to sponsor a superstar and they won't have to work anymore. Well that just doesn't happen to everyone so you end up with a lot of dropouts. One last thing, $40,000 grand a year may not seem like a lot of money to some of you out there, but it's a lot to me and I appreciate what it has given me. The money is helping pay for college and host of other things in my life, I don't live like a king, but I'm not begging for food everyday either. Good luck to all.
