Holy Crap Ferny & Ray, Silo-Structuring Is Awesome!
How Silo-Structuring Put Me On Page 1 of The Google Results for "PPC Domination" and Why You Need To Learn To Pull The Trigger
So I admit that I've been super lazy. If Ferny and Ray charged me, I'd probably owe them both about a million dollars in hourly consulting fees. However, the vast majority of what we've discuss has NEVER been implemented by me. I've talked to these guys so much about so many different things, it's ridiculous.
Ferny has yelled at me on many occasions after these, "Why don't you write an article about this!" I also train in Hwa Rang Do with these guys so they beat me up when I'm lazy too.
We had a conversation about this not too long ago after one of our training sessions. Simply put, Raymond asked me, "Joe, why aren't you doing anything? You know a lot about marketing and you haven't done anything with it."
Ouch, but he was right. And after that, I really took a cold hard look at what I was (and wasn't) doing and tried to come up with a reason for it.
I'd say that I have it pretty good. I work in the aerospace industry like those guys did, I live a couple blocks from the beach, and I drive a 2008 Audi. This is how I'd justify my lack of success in this industry. I wasn't compelled to change anything because inherently I thought things were pretty good.
This might have been part of it, but in reality, it's probably just FEAR that prevented me from doing anything. I've never really failed at anything (besides some tests in a programming class my freshman year of college). Doing something in which I have a real chance of failing frightened me.
I wrote an article for the Hwa Rang Do blog about External vs. Internal Motivation. While everything in that article is true, it was Master Lee that really made me realize what a profound change I had made in my life.
Doing something to better yourself with only you as the judge of its importance. Not grades, not scores, not employer reviews, not fame, not fortune, just YOU. The goal of anything should be bettering yourself to the point where you can help better others.
I was sitting on all of this marketing knowledge and not using it, helping no one, least of all myself.
Fast forward to the PPC Domination launch. Mike Dillard had sent out an email to the pre-release folks asking for video testimonials for the sales page. I thought to myself, "Yeah, I should to that." Guess what, I didn't.
Then Mike announced a release date. I still hadn't done anything, but an Eben Pagan quote jumped into my head. It goes something like this, "The difference between successful entrepreneurs and failures is the speed of implementation of new ideas."
So I registered a new domain instantly ppcdominationreview.com and immediately installed Wordpress and uploaded a theme I'd been working with. I thought about some categories to use for silo-structuring and I made a new page for each one and I published them without any content. I submitted sitemaps to Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.com.
My plan was to watch the two videos from the sales page (the one with Aaron and Sophia Rashkin and the one with Jim Yaghi), take some notes and make two posts from those. I also uploaded a video that I made before in another post, and I thought I'd put two small biographies for Jim Yaghi and Mike Dillard.
And then doubt crept in.
- "There is no way this site is going to get indexed in time."
- "This is going to be a waste of time, I should spend my time working on my downline builder quiz site"
- "You're gonna miss the launch and have a worthless site."
So I didn't post the articles. And then I kicked my butt a few days later and said to myself, "JUST DO IT! There's no point in getting this far and not finishing. Do it because you told yourself that you were going to do it, if for no other reason."
So I did it. And it was late, but it was done. I threw up a few links from some of my other sites and hoped I'd end up with a page 3 listing in the SERPs.
Now, back to the title of this article. Little did I realize that my structuring choice for the site was going to help so much. I mean I knew about proper structuring, but I had never seen it work in practice.
And I didn't even realize that it had worked at all until I looked at my traffic report in the MS back office. I had a picked up some leads from the site!
Then I checked the SERPs and I had a page 1 listing in Google (#7 right under Ferny and Ray's site) for the keywords "PPC Domination." I took a look at Google Analytics and saw this.

Now, the Google and Yahoo link reports are showing nothing. Meaning that this site is ranking with no links (yet) based solely on structure and content. I was pretty happy and did a little dance around my apartment.
And then I immediately started writing this article.
I'd really like to thank both Ferny and Ray for all they've taught me both about marketing and personal development. That last conversation over dinner really got me thinking about what's holding me back and how to get rid of it.
And for the rest of you. I highly recommend that you check out their new program SEO Networker. You might say that I'm the pre-pre-pre release candidate and I can tell you that what they teach definitely works.
Thanks again guys. Daedanhee Kamsahapnida!

SEO Rules!
You're the man, Joe. People don't realize how far a little action will go.
This is the 2nd time we have used SEO for quick results for a launch, so this stuff definitely works.
Perfect job, implementing!

I'm sure I'll be learning more about this in SEO Networker. But let me ask now...
I have a mess of content on the web - not organized in a silo structure. Is there a "clean up kit" for taking everything (in terms of content) and re-organizing it into a silo structure?
I've created enough content about PPC Domination, and did so in an amount of time that was necessary to keep up with the deluge, yet, page 4 is the best I can do... I want to learn what I'm not doing correctly.
Furthermore, how do you submit sitemaps to Google....etc.? How does that work? What does it look like?
I can't wait to learn more of these things. Glad you'll be on the scene.
Eric Walker
Eric, You'll Be Learning all that and more...
Hey Eric,
In the SEO Networker Mastermind, we'll be going over everything you just asked and more. You'll be a pro by the time we're done with the program and we'll be showing you the strategy Joe and I used to get new websites ranked for "PPC Domination" so quickly.
We did this before with the "Black Belt Recruiting" launch and netted $1000 in affiliate commissions. Nothing too technical. It's a simple formula that takes half a day to implement and works like a charm everytime. It's free money if you know how to do it.
-Ferny
Eric, I was gonna answer
Hey Eric,
I was going to answer your questions but apparently Ferny filed a gag order. I guess you'll just have to wait for the program to start.
Thanks for the kind words,

Cool Cool
Thanks Ferny and Thanks Joe.
Yeah...I have finished downloading and activating the recommended plugins yesterday, so I am seeing how the site mapping may work. Little by little, it's making more and more sense.
Let me tell you both, you really have an eager student. I'm ready!
I'll start making a mess of the widgets and see if I can't get everything looking good for our commencement.

Well Done, Joe!
Congrats!
Your site actually came up #6 under my search.
And I gotta tell ya, for such a quick project, your site looks pretty good. I enjoyed the video, and all your content seems "human". Speaking as a PPC Domination student, I'd be happy clicking an ad that led to your page.
Maybe Ferny & Ray won't give you such a hard time in the dojo now,,;)

Leveraging the News
Yes, I think this is one of the most highest leveraging and effective strategies available and so few people apply it.
I've done some training on this called, "Leveraging the News" and the strategy can extend to book releases, author names, Oprah topics... anything that was recently discussed, announced, releases... it could be a new controversy... it could be a new fad diet... whatever. As long as it's related to one's industry a new term, topic, book, product, phrase, etc can be gold.
Great article.
Mike Klingler
Leveraging the News
Hi Mike,
You're absolutely right, dude. What you teach, I remember you saying it's through a blog post right?
I think the key difference here is that he got the rankings with a brand new domain and website, with no previous authority or history. I think the strategy you are referring to leverages the previous history and authority of your blog to put the article post on the top 10.
The only problem with blog post is since Google views it as news, rankings are likely to go down after a few days.
What Joe did and what we've done with PPCDominationBonus.com and BlackBeltRecruitingBonus.com is created a ranking which is long term and more stable.
Everything from how you register the domain, building the site and getting links is key to maintaining the rank.
Getting links into the blog post will also help maintain the rank with Mike Klinger's strategy.
If you already have a blog with history, go check out what MagneticSuperStar.com -- he's one of the best when it comes to using your blog in creative ways to get traffic.
If you've got no site or history, the strategy Joe implemented works like a charm every single time.
Hey Ferney is there any
Hey Ferney is there any reason why you should use wordpress to implement this silo-structuring strategy? I ask this question because as a student of Mike Klinglers we were introduced to squarespace as a blogging platform to create our blogs, not saying that I wouldn't use wordpress just asking the question.
And what about Squidoo,Hubpages,E-zine articles etc. can this technique be used to develop search engine rankings with these types platforms as well. This is interesting stuff and well worth the educational training can't wait to hear more.
Kevin, Great Question...
This was what I was getting at when I posed my questions above, Kevin . . . anybody who is anybody knows that Mike Klingler is a great teacher, and that Marketing Merge Renegade Professional got us (meaning Eric Walker and Kevin Thomas) to the place where we are now BUT dude! This stuff isn't covered.
You asked if it can be done with SquareSpace, and the answer is probably yes it can be done with SquareSpace, BUT who is teaching these concepts? I only know of Ferny and Ray and they're teaching it with WordPress.
Great question about how to develop that technique with Squidoo, Hubpages and EzineArticles, I'd like to know the same thing. We have enough content up at those locations don't we?!
Thanks for adding to this conversation Kevin, you da man! Seems like me and you are always on the same page.
Eric
Sounds like a Good Forum Topic Eric
@Eric, @Kevin It sounds like that would be a good discussion topic in the PPC domination forum, I must say that I get all this stuff done for me automatically.... without having to even know how it is done.
Strange, I know.

PPC or SEO?
Although it's a good idea to post that question in our PPC study group forum, it's an SEO question, but it would be a good question for the SEO Networker forum. (note to self)
Optimized Silo Structuring + Leveraging The News...
@ Ferny, absolutely. You're definitely onto something big here. I've used a limited strategy of domain and content structuring at marketingmerge.com, but I'm certain I could optimize it far more once I dig into your SEO Networker training (which I intend to do). I'm even more excited about how I might be able to apply your Silo structuring strategy to get top rankings with brand new blog domains and then create outgoing links that lead into my main site.
Eric's 100% right though--I'm not teaching this level of SEO training as you are. I plan to be learning a lot at SEO Networker.
Regarding the question that came up about whether or not Squarespace can allow for Silo Structuring, I do think that most of the structuring options can be accomplished with the squarespace blog but I have a feeling there may be more versatility with Word Press as it pertains to creating a unique domain name like Joseph O'Day did with his: http://ppcdominationreview.com
With Squarespace, you can use domain mapping to create a unique domain but I believe you have to purchase another account (about $7/month) to have another completely separate domain name ... I assume that with Word Press you can just add new domains without increasing the cost (aside from the cost of buying a new domain and any new hosting charges from all the traffic you get :-) I haven't used Word Press so I'm not certain about this. What costs are there other than purchasing the new domain name through somewhere like GoDaddy when you want to set up a new domain name?
Up until now, I've only been able to optimize domain names at Squarespace or at my other site by doing something like:
http://www.marketingmerge.com/black-belt-recruiting-mike-dillard-trainin...
This is a URL that has been indexed in the #1 position on page 1 of Google for Black Belt Recruiting (It's an article that Eric Walker contributed to Marketing Merge, actually!)
I was only able to optimize the domain name by placing "Black Belt Recruiting" as early in the URL as possible. What I'm not sure about (and perhaps this is taught at SEO Networker) is how much more effective it would be for search rankings if I could use a domain like BlackBeltRecruitingReview.com instead of http://www.marketingmerge.com/black-belt-recruiting-mike-dillard-trainin... -- I suspect it has it's advantages to use the shorter version with the key words first, though it isn't the only thing Google would look at.
I'm sure it is the "Silo Structuring," which SEO Networker training covers that can be extremely important for rankings... Just using my limited knowledge of optimizing the content structure along with the Leveraging the News concept (along with incoming links) I've gotten some great rankings... so this is certainly a topic worth studying... it IS what 'leads' are made of!
But Ferny's 100% correct, my MarketingMerge.com site isn't new. It had already existed for about a year. I was able to get my blog pages listed high fast for key words like Black Belt Recruiting (and keep it there)... but I was able to leverage existing content. So I know that you're onto something big here, Ferny... to get a new blog ranking high, which is why I've been referring my students to SEO Networker... to learn this stuff. It will be those willing to study and apply, and develop these higher skills that will dominate online
I do believe however, that there are big additional advantages to applying your 'optimized domain & Silo structuring' to the "Leveraging the News" strategy I mentioned above, which is what I meant to highlight in my previous post. I suppose it may go without saying... that it will be easier to get indexed by Google in a high ranking if you are one of the first to the scene because you have far less competition. If there are hundreds or more people already indexed by Google for a term my testing has shown it will be much more difficult... of course, you could still get in the high ranking by optimizing your content as you're teaching with Silo structuring if others are poorly structured, but if you can combine the two strategies (Silo structuring optimization with the Leveraging the News concept) you can dominate in the rankings.
I'll continue sending people your way to learn from SEO Networker--keep up the great work and training!
Congrats to Joseph O'Day on taking action and applying what you learned as well as on the result!
Mike Klingler
P.S. I've talked a bit more about "Leveraging the News" as it pertains to the launch of Black Belt Recruiting here:
http://www.marketingmergenetwork.com/internet-network-marketing/2008/7/1...
This URL is bouncing in and out of page 1 and 2 of Google as well, for key word, "Black Belt Recruiting"
I encourage everyone to take the "Leveraging the News" strategy this page discusses and apply it to any new book release, controversy, or news of any kind in your industry such as Joseph did with the PPC Domination launch. Add this strategy to what you're learning about Site Structuring at SEO Networker and you'll dominate in the rankings.
Thanks for sharing...
@ Joseph, it was really cool reading your story about getting this whole thing going and all the doubts and fears you've had before and during the process. It's such a familiar feeling and I know it is for so many of the entreprenours out there...It's really all about equiping yourself with the correct tools and getting yourself into action...I also heard that same phrase by Eben Pegan about the speed of implementation and looks like you pulled it off right on time. :)

Question About WP Themes
Hey Joe,
You have quite a nice conversation going here.
I have a bit of a lighter question, and that is in regard to themes.
Now, I understand how to find themes - there are free themes and some themes that cost. I also understand how to find them. Not difficult, but regarding the free themes, there are tons.
I was wondering if you could provide any insight as to how you wound up selecting the theme you used for ppcdominationreview.com. I see that you selected "Deep Blue Theme."
Thanks. Man, I sure do like it when I see pages of content look like this one here - chalk full of good stuff.
Hosting...
Mike said: "I assume that with Word Press you can just add new domains without increasing the cost (aside from the cost of buying a new domain and any new hosting charges from all the traffic you get :-) I haven't used Word Press so I'm not certain about this. What costs are there other than purchasing the new domain name through somewhere like GoDaddy when you want to set up a new domain name?"
If you have decided to go with Wordpress and you are going for the hosting your domain solution than if you want to have more than one website you need to pay for the hosting of all of them.. So that's extra $8-$10 minimum a month for each domain you want to host.
With SquareSpace the fees are basically the membership fee, becausese they host your site for you. So if you wanted one more blog, you would have to pay the extra monthly fee, starting at $8 I think at the moment.
So seems like it's not such a big difference in the price.
However, I am not sure if the hosting fees you would pay to Hostgator for example are locked in or they increase depending on the badwidth of traffic you accumulate each month.. I guess that's a question for Ferny.
Wow, a lot of action on this one...
Hi everyone,
Thank you all for the kind words. I'm going to attempt to address all the comments.
@Mike @Ferny, I'm going to write another post on why I think this worked. I'm going to respectfully disagree with Ferny on the "why" portion of it, but I think it might just be semantics. Two things are at work here. 1. How Google deals with longtail queries and, 2. How the market (people) for these type of searches can change very quickly.
@Leo, they are going to beat me up no matter what. It's for my own good, or at least that's what they keep telling me. ;)
@Jim, I would expect my page 2 listing is due to the geographical nature of Google. Thanks for the comment and for the course! I wouldn't have gotten listed for anything without that.
@Kevin @Eric @Didi @Mike, I'm not familar with SquareSpace, but it looks like one of those all in one hosting/platform deals. Wordpress (WP) is simply just a program that you install on your server. It's free, but you need a hosting account (which adds some techincal details that some people don't like to deal with). WP is also just a point and click install on most major hosting providers. Right now, I have 4 separate WP installs on my single hosting account (2 on the same domain, and 1 each on 2 other domains). WP has tons of customization options, plugins, widgets, themes, etc. You can customize the heck out of it. And if you know PHP, you can hack it up even further. I think it was designed for blogging purposes, but I use it more as a content management system.
For the SEO aspect, it's almost as simple as telling WP how to structure your URLs and linking. It's very simple to implement.
@Eric, as for the choice of my theme, I found that one on http://www.dailyblogtips.com/wordpress-themes/. There were a couple different version for Adsense and 125x125 banner blocks. I did a serious amount of editing to this on though. If you notice, I removed all of the things that would make it look like a blog (date, time, author, comments, etc).
There is a link to the WP theme library in your control panel. There are a ton of themes listed so it's kind of hard to find things unless you know what you're looking for. But if you're specific, you can usually find something. For instance, I was looking for a theme and searched "Verdana two-column custom header" meaning I was looking for a theme with a Verdana font (one of the best for readability), two column layout, and something where I could change the header (add a graphic, etc). Unfortunately it's almost as if there are TOO many choices.
Another great site for themes is http://www.csszengarden.com/ You can really get an appreciation of all the possiblities with WP. I don't know if I'd recommend those themes for business-type sites, but they have some really beautiful designs. Another way to find good themes is just by surfing the net. If you see a site that you like, see if they are running Wordpress and what their theme is. Hope that helps.
Thanks again everyone!
Technical details to deal with...
Joseph said: "It's free, but you need a hosting account (which adds some technical details that some people don't like to deal with)"
That's how I felt 18 months ago after purchasing Blogging to the Bank ebook and dedicated about 2 weeks of work on trying to create a blog at WP. I bought hosting at Yahoo as the book recommended it and followed the instructions. I think I got a lot of the technical stuff done but got stuck with installation of the theme. There were many I was able to easily install, but for some reason the few that I really liked and would loved to have been able to install gave me errors over and over again and I could not install them successfully. Finally I gave up. :)
Now I am at Hostgator and will purchase hosting there and will give this another try...Let's see what happens.
I definiately agree that if you want to go with WP you have to have the patience of all the technical stuff that might try to challenge you.

MLM NOT Competive!
Hey Mike,
You brought up some great points about having implemented some basic fundamental strategies and have been able to create some extraordinary results.
The reason why this is possible, is because MLM is not a mature market SEO-wise. It's ripe for the taking and even doing 1/10th of what we are teaching will get you the results you want in this non-competitive markets.
It's great that you have been teaching this stuff to your members. You've given them a HUGE head start on fundamentals, which will definitely put them ahead of the curb when they dive into the SEO Networker stuff.
I'm happy that people are catching the buzz about SEO here, before the rest of the MLM companies and leaders catch on.
Now with regards to WP... it just makes sites really easy to manage and optimize. Beats racking your brain over Dreamweaver. The other advantage is that it has an RSS feed. There's some funky things going on with feeds, which creates an SEO Butterfly affect.
Haven't completely put my finger on it, but we'll be covering what we know in the program as well as bringing in some subject matter experts to explore it further. What I do know is that Google has been using RSS feeds to index blog posts, rather than scanning the site.
Ain't it cool that the cutting edge on SEO is happening in this industry, instead of with the IM gurus?
I'm excited!
Ferny
Ain't it cool that the cutting edge on SEO is happening here!
Ferny, you said it!
"Ain't it cool that the cutting edge on SEO is happening in this industry, instead of with the [Internet Marketing] gurus? "
I think it is quite amazing that the network marketing industry is about to totally dominate the Internet marketing world... for many reasons.
Networkers know the value of being social (unlike Internet Marketers)... and networkers know the value of ongoing training to develop their skills (like your SEO Networker Training)
But more than anything, the networking industry has prepared millions of people for a business ownership mindset... until now it just had a bad "how to" plan. The MLM industry was cool in theory--we've just needed a mechanism that worked more effectively but was still low cost so the masses could participate (which is what makes network marketing strong as a business model). The "New" Internet is effective, low cost (practically no cost)... and has had most of it's original technical hurdles removed.
I'm excited about what's evolving and the opportunity to collaborate with so many great contributors... Training like yours Ferny is leading people out of the struggle and into a world where a successful business is no longer rocket science :-) and the 'how to' approach is finally based on something you can control beyond JUST "... talk to more people"!
Looking forward to more great feedback on your training, Ferny. I've just sent out an email to my list about SEO Networker--great job putting all this together.

Value Is So Precious
My Dear Betternetworker Comrades,
Excellent comments and reminders galore---that we should listen & learn from those who have "traveled the broadened roads" of trial & error and mediocrity/procrastination.
Now, even though mediocrity/procrastination is a road well-traveled and often offers nothing but fear, confusion, discourse, and other mind-injuring effects, there are those few, like Mr. O'Day, who have decided to take the "road less-traveled" to success. He actually took ACTION.
Repeat I must...He actually DECIDED to take action! TREMENDOUS JOB!!
Many here in this discussion have offered beneficial VALUE.
That's what separates you from the...
"ORDINARY".
Jim Rohn, well renowned author/speaker once stated that,
"The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makes of you to accomplish it. What it makes of you will always be the far greater value than what you get."
Tis so true.
I sincerely need to say that many of your comments made me finally realize that it's the first steps I need most to accomplish.
As a SEO Mastermind Group student, I'm looking forward to giving VALUE back to you
ALL
so we can make this world a better place.
