How 2B Miserable - Lesson 4: Worry About Things You Can’t Control

“Fear is that little darkroom  where negatives are developed” - Michael Prichard

There are problems in the Middle East, the killer bees are moving northward, there’s not enough snow pack in the mountains, and the Bears are out of the playoffs. This is just a small list - if you want a bigger one, watch the evening news!  Keep a list of all the sad, dismal, sordid and ugly events so you know exactly depressed to be.  Then you can be miserable, worry about things over which you have no control.

Happy people do exactly the opposite. They take Joseph Smiths advice (which came from the miserable Liberty jail):”Therefore, clearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, wit the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed”.  This approach is the opposite of misery, since it will only lead to Hinckley-esque faith and optimism
