How Much Do you Really "Need"?
I am not going to point fingers here, I do have a question for you all.......
How many people have been approached or looked into one "business" but somehow ended up buying more than just the one?
If I did not already know about such things as putting my site on yahoo and google search engines or how to buy or post a website, I may have fallen into that trap. These things can be done for so much less then others try to sell it for. What happened to good hearted people helping others? Come on you all, there are some people out there with real talent frustrated as all get out from the lack of funds to reach their full potential. MORE men and women were born with plastic spoons, not silver.
A hosted website that you can direct traffic to your main company page is only ten dollars a year, but people try to sell "hot to do this" and "how to do that" stuff. I am struggling to make ends meet most of the time, it was a great sacrifice for me to start my business. I am sure I am not the only one who feels like someone may have been trying to take advantage of them.

A little cash and a lot of sweat is all that is needed
Michelle,
You pose a very good question, and the answer is very simple: the advantage that the Internet offers is that you don't have to invest a lot of capital to start your business, you can leverage effort for capital. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to promote your products and services, but you are going to have to work hard at creating a presence on the internet in order for people to find you and your product. Unfortunately you are going to run into more people that are more interested on making a dime than helping others, because they don't understand what you are supposed to do in order to be successful.
There are things that you can do in order to promote you business on the internet without having to spend much, you can have a professional website fully functional for a few cents per day. The same can be said for auto-responders, capture pages and blogs. The more effort you are willing to invest the more you save. You can show people that don't have enough income to pay for their auto-ship, how to start an internet business so they can begin to make a profit, and later invest in themselves.
You are right there are a lot of people frustrated and looking for a way out of their situation. For those that are willing to make a small investment on themselves, and acquire the knowledge and skills to take advantage of the tools available on the internet, there is a way out. But there is no a free lunch, regardless of what anyone else tells you this is a business and you have to treat it like a business, I wrote a short article about this:

The need of those people creates a great opportunity for those that have the “know how”, and the strategies necessary to make it on the internet.
This is not about promoting an MLM companies or products. It is about being able to solve people’s problems (marketing on the internet is one of them) that is going to make you successful in this industry.
To your success,
