How to Avoid the Top 7 Rookie Mistakes in your Home Based Business. Part 1 of 7

This Article is a Seven Part Series I have decided to write based on a weekly training my sponsor conducts on the topic of Common Rookie Mistakes New Home Business Owners Make. I have been amazed at the response from both new and old business owners as well as individuals who have been invited to attend the training who have not yet started a business but are considering doing so.  I believe in paying it forward and this information can benefit anyone in this industry.

**I will not name specific companies in these articles.  This information can be applied to all Home Businesses**

Rookie Mistake #1:

Not have a game plan for getting started. (First Steps)

Pretend you’ve just bought a Mcdonalds. What are the steps you’re going to take before you feel confident enough to turn around your “open for business” sign? Now, let’s bring those steps back to your home business.

If I were going to make a list of things to do before I got started in a home business, it would look something like this:

___ Set business hours

___ Schedule time to work on my business **Remember this is a Business! Not a Hobby!**

___ Become familiar with my product

___ Know my product prices

___ Know how my product is delivered and the time frame for that

___ Have a welcome email ready to go to new business partners

___ Decide how I’ll take payment

___ Set up my bank account

___ Set up my merchant account

___ Know how to help someone join my business

___ Make time for personal development every day

___ Decide on website building software

___ Decide if I want coaching for that website software

___ Get my autoresponder set up and watch tutorials on how to use it

___ Begin working on my personal branding website

___ Decide on how to organize my prospects so I can keep track of who’s who

___ Decide on how I’m going to advertise my business

___ Read up on how to do that advertising

___ Get a video uploaded on youtube about why you joined your business

___ Get appointment set with sponsor for mentoring to keep me focused

These are only a few of the steps you can take. Your sponsor may suggest different steps or you may have joined a complete system that you can plug into.  Even if it is a system it’s important to set up the foundation of your business. We’d all like to join a business opportunity and then the next day make sales. But, typically that’s not going to happen. There are systems that are available to home business owners that are “plug and play”, however, it’s important to understand that no system does all the work. There still must be a human element involved. People want to do business with those they know, like and trust. If you’re going to use systems, I recommend you introduce to your prospects by giving them a call, make sure they are getting the information they are looking for, and if they have any questions for you.

So, get a game plan, work your plan, and begin to put the foundation of your business together piece by piece. There’s really no reason why you can’t be up and running in 7-10 days. Without a game plan:

You’ll be unorganized, do nothing and quit.

Can you relate to this? Is this not the truth?

• Be unorganized and no game plan = do nothing, unproductive

• Go in too many directions = do nothing, unproductive

• Feel out of control = do nothing and feel overwhelmed

• Overwhelmed = do nothing

This is not what I want for anyone in the Home Business Industry. I want you to be capable of advertising your business after a week or two of launch. I want to give you wings to fly and confidence to make it happen. So, offering first steps is important.  Stay Tuned for Part 2 Coming Soon.

Good Info!

It's definately very important to have a "blue-print" for what you are trying to do.

It's always best to do your thinking on paper, and plan for the obstacles. YES, plan for them, that way when you come to a hurdle, you know how to jump it.

The great thing about MLM is that you should have a lot of help w/ the above tasks. Any good MLM business, is going to have an EXCELLENT training system to teach you how to do most of the tasks in the above list by Kristin.

Most importantly, Get Started!

And, with a well-layed out "blue-print" or plan of what you are going to build, you simply just have to be persistent, and consistent.

Looking forward to Part 2!!

Good stuff Kristin!
