There’s nothing quite as satisfying as owning your own successful home-based business. No commuting, no boss, no getting dressed up when you don’t feel like it, and all the time you need for yourself, your family, and your friends.

There has never been a better time than right now to start your own home-based business.  Even a few years ago, people working at home were few and far between.  Many people, including the media, thought there must be something a little fishy about any home-based business.

But those days have thankfully gone forever. Today, MILLIONS of North American earn fine part-time and full-time incomes without ever having to leave home.

The Internet has been the driving force behind this dramatic change. You can cheaply and efficiently reach hundreds, thousands, and even millions of prospective customers with a few clicks of the mouse.

In my day-to-day role as a Certified Wealth Consultant, I constantly hear from people who want to start their own business. Most want to know if this is a good time to start their business. After all, many economic conditions are trending downward right now.

Frankly, I've never seen a BETTER time to start a business. Lots of people have problems they need solved NOW..and that means huge opportunities for YOU.

But how do you choose the RIGHT home-based business to make your own? Here are a few tips that will help you make sure your business gets started on the right foot.

1. Choose a business that has a well thought-out online system. These days the better business opportunities will give you a web site, a way to advertise, free or low-cost leads, and even help
in selling and product fulfillment. That's right, the company will do all the selling and product shipping for you.

That's a huge plus for lots of people who simply don't see themselves as salesmen. Of course, there is a reason why more than half of all new businesses are started by women. Real selling is little more than showing concern for a customer's needs, explaining how your product or service can help those needs, then show the customer how to buy. Women in particular are good at effective selling by consulting.

2. Choose a business with a very enthusiastic pool of potential customers. You don't necessarily want a BIG audience, you just want a group of prospects who very badly want what you sell.
They will pay whatever you ask, and they want your product or service NOW!

For example, my friend Maria is a bookkeeper. She knows the one thing all small businesses need is help in figuring out accounting programs and government tax requirements. So Maria a service that sets up a good bookkeeping system, then checks back to answer questions along the way.

Word has spread fast about Maria's service. Business owners need her help and they want it NOW!

3. Make sure your business is scalable. That means as you feel the need to grow your sales and income, you will be able to do so by expanding your product line, offer additional more expensive services, and add associates. You may even open branch offices.

Ask yourself, "How will I be able to grow BIG?" Maybe you can add more web sites, more business opportunities, and create a massive downline. All those things can bring you a six-figure income for life.

Owning your own business is one of the most satisfying things anyone can do. The freedom you feel is simply unmatched.

Network Marketing is NOT a Sales Business

This is a good introduction to home business ownership. One comment I'd like to make is that network marketing is not really a sales business. Point number one in the article alluded to the benefits that come with a network marketing company. The only way to be successful in that type of business is to teach and duplicate. You can be an awesome salesperson and grow a team of 100 people, but if you can't teach your people to duplicate (and it's NOT duplicating your sales strategy), then your team will atrophy quickly. But, if you can sponsor just 5 people and TEACH them to do the same by teaching relationship and communication skills..then when your team reaches 100 people, you have momentum and duplication solidly in place. Not everyone can be a good salesperson, but most people can learn really good communication skills and can teach what they learn to others.

This way of looking at network marketing is outlined in one of my favorite MLM training books...

The 45 Second Presentation That Will Change Your Life.

Deborah Tutnauer — Tue, 09/23/2008 - 10:17pm

Here is an Article that one

Here is an Article that one of my Friends wrote and it is a Great way of explaining the outline of Finding a Good Home business in addition to your Post.  I must agree with Deborah, Network Marketing is NOT a sales business, it is not duplicatable.

Here is the Article by Hugh Ervin:

If you are looking at the pitch, there are 2 questions you must have answered.

Can You Make Money? Can You Keep the Money?

If you can say Yes to both of these questions, you might have a winner.

If you can’t say Yes to both questions, you definitely have a loser.

I get a lot of pitches, and I look at a lot of “opportunities”.

Whatever I look at, those are two questions I want answered factually. I would not consider joining any business until I had these 2 questions answered. Truthfully.
Neither of these questions will come up in a presentation, nor will they be welcomed by the presenter.

You must have them answered or you will end up in the 95% who fail in the industry.

You’ll do best to answer them yourself. That way you’ll know what the facts are, regardless of what the presenter says or believes. Slick presentation does not equal knowledge. I can show you how to answer these questions.

1st, how many people do I need to bring into this opportunity in order to create $1000/mth in residual income? (not bonuses). Walk away money.
Here’s the reason for getting this first question answered.

Almost all the people who will join you in a biz will come in as part time.
If the true number of people they need, (not what the presenter implies) to create that first $1k in residual is too high, they will grow frustrated and quit.

The part time people represent most of your team. If they are frustrated, you will be frustrated. You will find yourself in a position of having to out-recruit your attrition. A formula that guarantee’s failure.

This fact (number of people needed) can be worked out directly from the comp plan.

2nd, can you keep the money?
This question can be answered directly from the contract. (Policies and Procedures Guide).

Most people do not read their contract, or if they do, they did not understand it.

Companies know this. You’ll find the bad stuff in the back pages of the policy guide.

If the contract has clauses that create reasons for the company to not pay you, or to fire you, or forces you to jump through hoops, you can be certain the clauses will be used.

Catch clauses in the contract speak directly to the integrity of the management team. Can you trust them? Can you keep your money?
This question can be answered before you join. You should NEVER have to join before you see the contract. If you do, you should be running away, far and fast.

When you join one of these companies you are not an employee. You are a contracted distributor. Your relationship, how you get paid, when you get paid, IF you get paid, is all outlined in the policy guide. When you check off the little box that says you read and understood the contract, you have waived your rights to take any action against them. You are not protected by labour laws.

How do they get away with this you are wondering?

People join people. People do not join companies. If you find yourself looking seriously at any presentation, it is because you have made a decision to accept information from someone. Might have been a friend, a family member, or somebody you have become recently acquainted with.

They probably did not set out to deceive you or to hide this information. They did not know, to ask these questions themselves, and truly believe they are helping people. They present to you the way they are trained to present. They believe in the products, or the leaders, or the company, or the money. They believe. Belief alone is not enough by itself to make you successful. There is more to these businesses than just products.

These are 2 of 5 critical factors that must be present for you to succeed in any Network Marketing venture. Critical to your success, not the company’s success. There are some fantastically successful companies out there whose distributors fall into the 95% of those failing in the industry. Good news for the shareholders, bad news for the distributors.

I’ve touched on Compensation and Integrity. The other 3 critical factors are Timing, Duplication, and Products.

If you or anybody else would like more info on how to apply this analysis feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to help. We teach all of this for free.
