How to watch and Mock the Guru’s
How do Guru’s get so much attention? Do you think it’s because they were born with Guru status? No likely.
Let’s learn how to figure this out together.
So let’s dissect what a Guru does.
To dissect this you’ll need to perform a few activities.
1) Opt-in to one of your favorite Guru newsletters.
Read each email, watch the titles see how they are working toward a relationship with you with that email.
i. Was the email title obvious?
ii. Was the email title something that peek your interest?
iii. Why, why, why? Write it down.
iv. The body of the email – did it help you with something?
v. What was the first paragraph about?
vi. What about the body of the email – what was it telling you?
vii. What was the end goal of this email and why?
viii. Write it down and study it.
2) Visit your Guru’s blog.
Does he/she have a team of content writers?
i. If so, why and what are they contributing?
- What kinds of categories are offered and do they really help you?
- Is he/she giving out free information to really help you or is it free content leading up to another sale of their product or service?
- Why, why, why and break it down.
3) What about the Guru’s product.
Search the type of Guru’s product in Google and visit the competitors – see what your Guru is doing better or worse than the other.
- Is the service something you can use and that will really help (assuming you’ve purchased it)?
i. Why is that and write it down.
4) What is the main marketing source or sources your Guru uses to drive traffic (Google them by name, company name, product general keyword phrase … etc.) and take notice.
- Online articles? If so where?
- Classified ads? If so where?
- Press Releases? If so where?
i. How are the articles, classified or press releases written?
ii. Watch the format, titles and content.
There is really a lot you can do to dissect what your favorite Guru is up to and why in order for you to easier develop a system that is working.
I think it’s ok to mimic what your Guru is doing as long as you truly learn from it.
It’s just another way to figure out how and why they may be as successful as they are.
Dig deeper into their history.
- Where did they come from?
- Where did they start out?
- What made them so attractive?
Sometimes being observant and doing a little research can really pay off.

Observant Research (just full of tips isn't it)
Lisa! Thank you, these were great probing thoughts and I actually did go look at some of my guru email. I see things differently now. I'm going to go add you to my friends now because this was value! I hadn't really thought about it before.

What a nice complement and thank you!
This is what I love most about networking with others - you may see something I've missed and the other way around. Two sets of eyes are better than one. :)
Thanks for the friendship too.

Some are for real and some are not. Evaluate what they is it from the heart or from an ad copy book.

Dang Lisa
You've gone and given it away girlie. Researching what the successful people are doing for free? Getting on their lists so you can learn the copywriting skills for free? Checking out their marketing sources? (actually I hadn't thought of this one so thanks)
Bad idea, very very bad idea. Take no notice of Lisa here. lol
Great article Lisa.

LOL too funny!
To me it's a great way, but guess what - most won't take time to do it. There is time and work involved in it.
Not to be rude about it, I'm just saying there's more to it than just reading.
Watch, Learn, Duplicate, put into "Action" and test, test, test to see if you have the formula down.

Never have I....
Never have I thought of "disecting" an email on how and why it caught my attention. This is great advice for me and anyone wanting to succeed in life! Thanks Lisa, I knew connecting with you would be a great asset.

Thanks Sam! :) I'm glad we made a connection too.
Reverse Engineering...
In my former place of employment, we would call what you described "reverse engineering".
Nothing wrong with doing that, as long as you add your own spice to what you eventually discover.

Copy/Paste
Hi Ferny
Yes and that's an important point too. You need to make what you learn by watching Guru's your own. Never just copy and paste! ;)
The point of watching a Guru to me is a wealth of priceless education.
