I BLEW OVER $5000. IN MY FIRST YEAR OF INTERNET MARKETING

I was in the garden today. Spring is absolutely my very favorite time of year. There is always lots of clearing up to do but as you do that, you can see already the new shoots of this year’s growth popping up. Such a joy!

It got me thinking of how I embarked on my internet marketing career....much like I did the garden. At the beginning, anything that anyone suggested to me, I jumped on and introduced into my garden. If it looked good at their place, or they told me it was ‘easy & fast’ to grow, I was hooked. Yup you got it!1 I am a sucker for the ‘quick & easy’, and, that if ‘some’ is good, ‘more’ must be better. So my first years of gardening were a hodge podge of anything and everything that had caught my fancy that Spring.

In the same way I embarked into internet marketing. I read such persuasive ads promising (GUARANTEEING!) sure and fast success.  They all sounded so wonderful and while many people warned me about the scammers online and encouraged me to ‘get a real job’, I could not believe that everyone could be lying. There is just too much evidence of these young, enterprising and successful millionaires. Heck I just wanted to be able to pay the vet bills.....surely there would be enough for me too!! I signed up for so many things that I continue to get hundreds and hundreds of promotional emails DAILY!!

I had to get other emails to just be able to find personal messages.

It was only when I was doing my totals for income tax deductions, that I realized exactly how much money I spent in 2008...........and not a penny of income to show for it. With all the ebooks, and DVD’s and websites and domain names and coaching, and newsletters, etc etc I have well over $5,000. in business deductions for 2008. Good you say?? Well... really the reason for being online was to create INCOME, not develop more deductions. I have plenty of deductions with my animal rescue work, a registered charity in Canada. And that is with resisting the calls I got for offers to create success for me for ‘only’ 9 payments of $xxx.xx, etc. Maybe I was saved by the fact that I really do not have that kind of money and I was unwilling to go further into my line of credit (which I use each month to cover the animal costs).

Recently I have made contact with Mentoring for Free and a dedicated mentor who is reeling me in from my butterfly pattern of testing each new flower. He is teaching me to focus my aim and progress in one direction at a time. I am doing a 30-day mental cleanse to clear my mind and control my direction. With great difficulty, I am no longer responding to each email that appears to promise so much.

Similarly my gardening is becoming more focussed. I am learning to accept & realize that my very amateur efforts will not come near to the gardens of full time, lifetime gardeners. I am more realistic about my expectations and I enjoy a nice variety of home grown vegs as well as an ok showing of colour and flowers.

Anyway, the point of my little article is to say that it is very easy, normal and natural to get confused and misdirected when beginning a task. But there are some FREE ways to get help from people who have been around for a while and are delighted to share what they know.

I am experiencing more satisfaction and a sense of growing myself since getting onboard with Mentoring for Free. I love what is happening for me and I look forward to opportunities to share it, pass it on to others.

Hi Chris,

Education does have costs associated with it and one should continue to seek it. However some can ill afford $5,000 loss on schemes that only enrich the promoters.

There is training and on going education for free and available to any that want it.

Great Post Rachel

You do know you are not alone.  I blew a ton of money on other money making programs, and none of the others bought me one red cent.  I could sit back and get depressed, but what I tell myself is that they really were'nt a waste.  I learned something in each and every one of them.  If nothing else, I learned what to look for in a good program.  I am happy to say, I no longer have that problem, but it wasn't easy getting to this point.  Hopefully, you're happy too!
