I Dare You: The way to do your New Year Resolutions explained by Tom "Big Al" Schreiter

I had the privilege of listening in on a Network Marketing legend this last evening; Tom "Big Al" Schreiter.

You Google him and you'll find he is not a huge man, but his name is huge in the world of network marketing.

Simply, he explained the ideal way to really hold yourself accountable to keeping your New Year's Resolutions.

It's a simple 3 part formula to convincing yourself that you absolutely HAVE TO stay true to your goals.

#1 Choose a measurable goal and write it down.

#2 Pick the most disgusting consequence you can think of if you fail to meet your goal.

#3 Advertise your goal to friends and associates and they will be sure to hold you accountable.

(They would love to see you eat dog food, cockroaches, or give money to the politician who most disgusts you or any of another abhorrent things that you or they might think of... Trust Me.  It's really true!)

If you take a look at my blog you can see I've posted two goals so far.  How many do you dare to advertise?

Your Forever Friend,

Randy Enman

Might have 2 change my nickname from Trailblazer to "Bar-man"...

...but people might get the wrong message.  If we're not constantly raising the bar for ourselves and our friends, then what happens to growth?

Growth ceases, right?  As one of my old church leaders used to say, "Lengthen your stride, and quicken your pace!"

Hey thanks guys, you're too kind.

Have a Very Happy and Very Prosperous New Year in 2009!

Setting The Bar...

I've got a challenge in place designed to help me get back in shape.  My competition is my 19 year old son (a college athlete), whichever of us looks better with our shirt off by April 9th (my b-day) will have the honor of being the profile pic on the other's social network pages with the caption "This is the body I WISH I had!".  Should be fun!

Staying True To Your Word

Randy,

This is the classic "fear of loss" scenario as a motivator. For some it works well, for others not.

If you plan to use "Big Al's" formula you'd best be absolutely ready to give up what you pledge. There is no shame in setting a goal and failing, however be cautious that if you do fail your task that you follow through on giving up or doing the thing that you pledged.

I know of a case in point where a guy shot off his mouth saying if this didn't happen by a certain time he would give up a prized possession. Time passed, his goal was NOT met and he did NOT give up what he said he would. For me, everything that came out of his mouth after that was bull, plain and simple. How could I trust him to live up to his word if he didn't keep his promises?

So, just as a caution to keep your reputation in tact, if you promise something keep your word. Your word, easily destroyed, is a precious thing.

A Very Happy and Prosperous New Year to you all,

RICK

That's awesome Jaison!

I think that's a great idea and pretty funny too.

May the best man win!

Thanks Rick!

I appreciate that very good point. A person's integrity is priceless.

I vow to eat that Alpo burger or the cow liver if I fail at my goal, but I sure don't plan on failing!

Thanks for the advise.

I can not believe it

When some one does good 1000001 times and then makes a mistake or changes his Stratigy  is that a good reason to not trust someone.  Well Rick I am sure no one can Trust you.  I am sure you have done things that  some may consider wrong.  Lighten up.

"Well Rick I am sure no one can Trust you."

This type of comment saddens me in a professional forum.

RE: I cannot believe it

Forgive me, Juanita, if I am not following this completely. For instance, take a vow of marriage. If a married woman is faithful to her husband for 10,000 days but slips up just once, has only one affair, it's justifiable because of the 10,000 faithful days. What happens to the level of trust in that relationship?

Let's take the hostility elsewhere please!

Hey guys,

I try to be respectful of other people's comment areas and I hope you would please do the same. I don't like the negativity I'm sensing here.

I thought I responded well to both concerns brought up by Rick and Joyce, but let's not turn someone's article comment area into a battle place to attack other members of the community.

Please take care of your personal differences in your personal spaces.

Thank you,

Randy Enman

Keep in on point

Randy,

Point taken. Thank you. If I have contributed to any negativity I apologize. It won't happen again.
