Is Your Team Making Money?
One of the best things about the Network Marketing Profession is the personal growth. My first 4 years of success were with a company that I no longer represent, but the education I received during that 4 years was better than any college degree ~ and less expensive. I never want to stop learning and growing personally and professionally. What better place to do that than this profession where we can experience personal growth with a Compensation Plan?
The latest thing I have taken to heart was the importance of finding an opportunity where all the people on your team who are willing to be coachable, take action and commit will be able to earn an income that rewards them for their efforts.
There are many companies out there that pay well to those who are massive recruiters, but they leave the consistent average networker in the dust. This may be great for the heavy hitters, but since only a handful of people will ever be top recruiters, it results in a lot of unnecessary attrition, in my opinion. The theory is to bring in lots of people and watch to see who makes it. Most of the time, it is like filling a bucket with a hole in the bottom. Hard-working, driven people with no training, soon become discouraged at their lack of results and fall out. The industry leader makes money, but often at the expense of these loyal team members who keep hearing that if they hang on long enough, it will happen. I'm not saying the leader is conscious of this, they may honestly not realize it until it is brought to their attention. But the bottom line is that some compensation plans simply don't pay for the average person. If these people are joining just to get a good price on the products or only care about making enough to pay for their monthly order, that's one thing. But what about the ones who want to make serious money?
Recently on a training call, I heard about a man in Network Marketing who approached all of his friends and family when he joined his company and told them his intentions of becoming a leader in that company and making millions. He told them he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he didn't give them the opportunity to come along and make some of the money with him. I don't know his name or the name of the company, but he went on to do just that. Those that joined him and worked the business became extremely successful as they built the business together. HOWEVER, some of the people were average, and even though they didn't make the big money, he still rewarded them by putting them in his will. They will be well rewarded for being committed and staying active. How is your team being rewarded for their commitments to you and your company? Do you know how much money they are making? Is it enough for their efforts? What will you do about it?
I recently had to leave a company because even though I had a measure of success, the committed members of my team were working hard and making next to nothing. I found I could no longer continue to invite people to join us when I knew the percentage of people who would make real money there. As a result, I had to make the most difficult decision I have ever made in my life and step down from the advisory board of that company to join a new company. In our new company within a couple of months those same hard-working team members tripled their 3 year income from the previous company. The decision to move was extremely difficult and financially challenging, but the reward of seeing my team succeed and doing the right thing is well worth it.
I attribute their success to three things:
1. the compensation plan pays the heavy hitter AND the average networker
2. the products are more varied and easier to use
3. the leadership has a different philosophy about recruiting and working with new people
When you consider a company, consider not only what you will make, but also what the average hard worker on your team will make. Consider the leadership, training and philosophy of the company. Are the owners lining their pockets? Are the people at the top making a lot of money while the average guy barely scrapes by? Is it because of the compensation plan?
Network Marketing is a team effort. Show your team how valuable they are to you.
I personally know a man in one company and a woman in another company who always have the best for their team in mind. As a result, their team trusts them and are willing to follow them. When they both recently made a move to a new company because of some flaws they saw in their previous company ~ their team came along because they knew their leader had their best interest in mind as well as their own. Do you want that kind of loyalty? Do what is best for your TEAM. Make sure they are making money!
