JCPenny, Nike, Dove Using YouTube for Viral Marketing
The SF Chronicle has a article today called "Using YouTube to Sell Diamonds", by James Callan. YouTube the new home for retail advertising. Here's a link to the article:
http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/?id=385029&type=Business
He writes that JCPenny hired an Emmy-winning director to create a video clip aimed to sell diamonds. The clip is getting hundreds of thousands of hits this week. You can view it at links.sfgate.com/ZFTQ. It's funny.
The article goes on to name a few other companies that are branching into viral marketing. This article caught my eye because up until now, this has been an arena where amateurs and average Joe home-business person could get a interesting video passed around and get exposure for free. This reminded me how Perry Belcher was saying in his video that right now is the time to get into social media because we are at the beginning stages. He made the point that TV was terrible when it first started but it didn't matter because it was new and whoever was on air got watched and made money. I think he's right but I'm guessing the window may be closing on average material getting watched. The markets are only going to get more competitive especially when you get big money and talent behind the videos.
The other point the article made that is important is that it is a very great way to build a brand but if it even "smells of Marketing" people will not forward it to their friends. The JCPenny ad only has the brand name is up for a few senconds at the end and highlights a diamond necklace at the very end.
The article also says that Internet ad spending will rise 18 % next year with videos countering the slower growth in banner ads.
My take-away from all this is that it is a great time to get into social networking to build your brand but as always we are going to have to add real value and may need to get more creative as the bar continues to rise.

Web 2.0 is growing
I can't agree with you more regarding video marketing and web 2.0. I also believe we can take it a step further than just submitting videos to various sites. This is why I founded www.gateways2paydays.com. I wanted to create a web 2.0 platform for experts like yourself and enable them to make money on demand.
While visitors and members are hanging out you have the ability to engage them in a variety of ways. For example:
If you plan to give a webinar, members and visitors can register, pay and attend all in one location. Also if everyone does not make it you can record the webinar and then they can view it at their leisure. Once the webinar is recorded you could set a fee to view and members can then view it on demand. You do work once and continue to get paid over and over.
That is just one way of utilizing www.gateways2paydays.com there is a plethora of other ways. Yes, web 2.0 and video is here to stay, the key is to be at the forefront of the technology and discover new exciting ways to benefit.
