Leaders Create Results- The 5 Levels Of Leadership
Think about it, you are in a leadership business! Everything rises and falls on leadership, doesn't it? At least that is what my mentor Art Jonak taught me. True leadership is when we can sit back in complete satisfaction and look at how many people we have helped. Leadership is making a difference in the lives of those individuals who have been placed in our path for a divine purpose. Leaders create results and I believe that we (like-minded people) are all striving to become leadership developing factories, right? Think about it, everything is based off of leadership, every area of our life. I am moving my way up the 5 levels of leadership and I want to take you with me on this journey. It feels so good when you can be a part of pushing someone up, after all our business is PEOPLE! Michael Dlouhy says it best he says to "study people!"
Leaders never stop learning! It isn't happening. A leader is totally devoted to continuous growth in all areas of their life. Leaders clearly understand that in order to make more you must become more. This brings us to the first level of leadership.
1. Learn- It is my responsibility to my family to "Own Our Life" and make our dream a reality, down to every fine detail. This means we will study successful people and take interest in how they accomplished their victories, learning from those who have done it. Readers are leaders and always will be. There is a strong thirst for constant growth that becomes stronger and stronger as we continue to educate and feed ourselves accurate information. Leaders learn through experience. This brings us to the next level.
2. Performance- This is the next stage in leadership. Performance gives you competence. Think about a baby. That determined child is born into this world with not one drop of fear in them. That tiny child will develop a burning desire to roll over for the first time or take that first step. What an inspiration to see little children fall down and get back up over and over, it could be a thousand times later and that child will not give up until it reaches Victory. The burning persistence in that child to achieve that goal is unstoppable. What it comes down to is we have to "Do", to know "How," right? Action must be taken and we must show that we are competent to be a leader by "doing."
3. Lead- Now you become the conductor of the orchestra. We have shown we are skilled by taking action and showing that we are capable of leading and have reached an increased level of influence. You have demonstrated your character and others are looking up to you for direction. This is when we can take them by the hand and teach them what we have learned, thus far on this journey to "Owning Our Life." This works best when there is a proven duplicatable system to point them to. Without a proven duplicatable system, "we are toast," as Michael Dlouhy says.
4. Develop Leaders- Leadership is all about replacing myself. That is the ultimate goal isn't it? To build up others to a level where they are developing leaders and leading the choir. A level 4 leader is often barely known by many; their team is receiving the credit and getting All the glory! This leader cares more about helping his leaders get results than getting any recognition. This can be a dangerous place if we don't pay close attention. Some people will get comfortable at this point. It’s a subtle thing; a person may think that they have learned the skills necessary to retain that leadership role. Don't fall into that rut. Know that there is always someone else to help. Always! This is when we go back and find people who are ready to progress through their levels of leadership and we begin at that starting level with them and proceed toward their goal. There will be many people working at different levels of leadership. All playing together, unified and working toward their own unique, compelling vision. The best part is the vision is big enough for all of them now. We have to lay out that vision and it needs to be big enough for others to be a part of. The leadership journey is by far well worth it!! It’s who we become through the process.
5. Developing Leaders Who Develop Leaders- This is the ultimate place of excitement! This is when we are changing the world. This is when men and women of integrity will assemble their army who will live and stand on truth. Very few get there but it should be the vision for each and every one of us here.
If you are looking for a mentor that will take you by the hand and walk with you on this journey, please know that I am here for you!

leadership business
Great article Jenny! I'd say most of us don't start out gifted as leaders. For those who have to work at it step by step, these levels are good to look at to see how we are progressing.

Great post I am passionate
Great post I am passionate about Leadership and given some of the posts I have seen in BN that worried me I think this is a Blueprint for how to behave as a Leader. I am convinced the reason this industry has the high drop out it has is not as the common myth is peddled that people don't have the sticking power, it's that we don't have enough people trained in Leadership skills to leverage their team.
If you give me 10 great leaders they will bring me in a permanent income much better than building a massive two legged downline. Ledership = leverage its as simple as that. Great article I gave it the thumbs up.
Great article Jenny
When I contemplated the 5th level of leadership and realized those are the Martin Luther Kings of the world I wondered if my vision would transcend who I was. Level 5 leaders cease to be, as they become their vision and their vision becomes them.
Only once have I met and spoke to anyone who's vision took my breath away. I was supposed to be helping her focus on her goals, her dreams, her vision and she turned my world upside down as she shared what she had been working on so far. She will be a Level 5 leader and our roles will be reversed as she starts the journey to change the world as we know it now. What an honour !
Great article Jenny and anyone who enjoyed it and wants to go deeper should read the book "Launching a Leadership Revolution" by Chris Brady and Orrin Woodward. Excellent read for those who are serious about leadership.

Enjoyed This Post
Thanks for the pointers.
I asked my soon to be 17 year old daughter what a leader should be?
She said, 1st, you have to have followers to be a leader.
You have to know where you are headed.
You have to know how to get there.
You have to show your followers why they should continue to follow you.
You covered it in "I am moving my way up the 5 levels of leadership and I want to take you with me on this journey".
Thank you so much
Very well presented...
I learned at an early age (5 decades ago) from People who
possessed phenomenal Leadership Skills, the Key Ingredient
for Effective Leadership: BE QUIET!
God privileged us with Two Ears and One Mouth,
and True Leaders use them Accordingly
Believe it or not, when conducted seminars I speak seldom,
ask questions and provide clear succinct answers when queried.

Leadership
Thanks for the road map. I find the most difficult and important thing is to reach the point at which we take action. It is that impetus that gives us the confidence to make us leaders, to keep us going and not quit. To get past the point of just thinking about doing things and doing them is crucial. Unfortunately most of us lose the fearlessness that children have which helps them just get up and go again. We have to relearn to just act, and get past the thinking stage.
Interesting article...
Thanks again...
Teach you Parents Well!
Leadership transends all labels. Thanks for sharing your wisdom to the world my dear!
Great post
Awesome post. Touched on everything that a Leader must do to be successful. One thing that I noticed is that once you start learning about leadership, you start to become more of a leader and pick up on little things that leaders do.
The more you learn and APPLY what you learn, the more you become a leader and the better off you are in life because you will not only improve your standard of living, but will also improve the lives of those around you. This includes friends, family, co-workers and even people you come in contact with on a daily basis.
The way that leaders present themselves and hold themselves is something that everyone needs to start implementing into their lives. The self-confidence you develop will rub off on others and they will absolutely LOVE being around you and will appreciate the fact that you have a good effect on their lives. Most likely once they realize it, they will thank you.
So thank YOU for this post, and keep up the leadership,
Chris Hughes

Building Leaders
Very good post Jenny.
All are very good points, but I especially like section 4 and 5. Building leaders is so critical in the success of your network marketing company. So many new people to network marketing don't realize this and find that they are simply doing all the work and not realizing the power of network marketing.
Well done Jenny!

Great framework - and so, to implementation...
I love this treatise. Leadership is, in my humble opinion, a very personal thing. I can think of a few who would see the framework outlined here as incomplete, or in some aspects just plain wrong. And I can think of others who will totally eat this up!
I think there are great possibilities to be explored by apply this framework to, well, applying this framework! (you may need to read that bit more than once - I know I had to!)
1 - Learn - seek to grow by exploring, adapting, and making your own meaning, of this framework, making it relevant to YOUR situation.
2 - Performance - I'd go further and say that performance gives you competence, gives you performance - it's an endless cycle. I'm not sure what competent to be a leader actually means, and I do know that another 'C' word is, in my opinion, also important - credibility. We often look to the leader to be competent in the same things we do as a sign that they are competent to lead. As the robot in Lost In Space would often say... "Danger! Danger Will Robinson!" - competent to lead is not what people are usually trained for, and people will probably see credibility before they see competence... perhaps. But followers will want to see that they are making progress towards the desired future - I'd call that 'performance'!
3 - Lead - yup, conduct that orchestra! - inspire a compelling and shared vision of the future, and point the way - direction, guidance, motivation. For me, performance in this level is mostly around enabling & encouraging the followers to develop their own capabilities and help their fellow travellers on this journey to the future.
4 - Developing leaders - oh yes, this is a biggie! I think in practice this could well look like simply being a great role model, and challenging potential leaders of the future to step up to the plate, to be stretched, to gain their own reputation and credibility with the followers, while still being supported - from a (short) distance. A ship is pretty safe when it is in port - but that was not the reason it was built - at some point it has to leave the safety of being close to port...
5 - Developing leaders that develop leaders - speaks for itself - I have little to add, except this one challenge. I don't think it makes sense for every one of us to aspire to the vision of being at this level. We can't all be leaders in practice, and many of us are content, even ecstatic, not to be. Remember that leaders need followers! That said, it is my experience that from situation to situation, leaders step up, and step down - a follower in 1 situation can be the great leader in another.
There are striking similarities between some of these elements (not all) and the long proven & researched Leadership Challenge model, so I'm very comfortable that Jenny's framework here will have great impact for us.
Jenny - a sincer thank you for this thought-provoking article. We can all take something of value from this.
And I agree with others - you sure are looking very much like a Level 5 leader to me!
Cheers
Martin
Is Martin a School Teacher?
What is up with that. Oh Well Now my thoughts on Your Article is. You can test your leadership skills if you cannot give away something of Value for Free you probably need a Leader to follow at least till you can get that step down. And no one can teach some one how to give better then Jenny she gives Value to Everything she does. How Powerful is that! Being able to give value to everything you do. Thanks Jenny
