Multi Level Marketing, or network marketing, has proven to be one of the most successful, long-term business strategies. It creates residual income, includes proven marketing systems, and creates a community of like-minded people to offer support and guidance. But, the reality is that it's not a good fit for everyone. Here are the 4 must have marketing skills you need to be successful with any MLM business.
1. A positive attitude: One of the things I love about the MLM industry is that it's focused on improving your self, as much as growing your business. No matter what company you choose to affiliate with, personal development is a big part of the process. Anytime you can make money, while improving your confidence, your relationships, and your overall outlook on life, well to me, that's a pretty good day. While you don't have to be Pollyanna, you do need to possess a positive outlook, and be open to this type of process.
2. An ability to generate leads: Many people fear getting into MLM's because they think they'll have to hit up their friends and family to participate. This is not true at all. With the Internet, you have a massive pool from which to pick from... people who are interested in what you have to offer, and actively looking to participate in an MLM business. When prospecting online, you don't focus on convincing someone why your opportunity is the best, you simply qualify them to see if they're a good match for your team.
There are a multitude of different ways you can find interested people online, and you can chose which marketing style fits you best. It can be as easy as ordering leads from a reputable leads company, or frequenting forums and providing information about your opportunity. Or you can create a blog, or set up a Twitter or Facebook account and look for people will similar interests, or desire for a home based business.
Obviously the marketing skills required will vary depending on which method you choose. For purchasing leads, it can be as simple as knowing which company is reputable to deal with. For blogs, you'll need to know a little about keywords and search engine optimization. Whichever way you go, you need to have some marketing skills around your chosen method, or at least be open to learning them.
3. An ability to work a pre developed system: Most MLM's have proven training systems already in place. In most companies, these have been created, and tweaked, over years of operation and are proven to be successful. While you can certainly run with your own methods, the majority of people who find success in the MLM industry (and tend to do so very quickly) simply worked the system that was handed to them. As humans, sometimes we have a tendency to try and complicate matters or over think things, but it really is that simple. If you can embrace the simplicity, you can be very successful with MLM.
4. Possess Leadership Skills: Leadership is really about wanting others to get ahead and helping them reach their goals. Network marketing is all about the team, and creating an environment of support and camaraderie for all involved. If that sounds like you, then you'd thrive in an MLM business.
While these are all must have marketing skills for an MLM business, it's not necessary to be a master of them before you start. In fact, the best thing about network marketing is that you can enhance yourself, and your skills, while you're making money.
