The 4 Pillars of Building an Internet Network Marketing Empire
In my last article (here it is if you missed it) I talked about the 7 Fatal Flaws that Internet Network Marketers Make…Now it’s time for the solutions!
If you’re just starting out online, or if you’ve been online for a while but aren’t making any money or generating the number of leads you want, then you might want to make sure that your business is on solid footing. So, here are the Four Pillars to building an Internet Network Marketing Empire.
Pillar I: Mindset
If you’re in the frame of mind that you’re going to “try this internet thing for a few months” and then see what happens, just quit now.
Seriously. Save yourself the time, money and disappointment.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your Internet Network Marketing empire won’t be either.
Making a ton of money online for the average person who is working part-time on their business can take 12-36 months and sometimes even longer than that. If succeeding online isn’t so important to you that you’re willing to stick it out for that long, then you probably aren’t cut out for this form of business building.
Go back to the traditional belly-to-belly approach and that may work better for you, or perhaps network marketing just isn’t the right fit for you.
I don’t mean that rudely…it’s just that some people are better at the traditional methods, others prefer online marketing, and some people just really aren’t cut out for the commitment of building a business from the ground up.
It’s important to know which category you fit in…for me, I’ll totally admit that I just couldn’t cut it with the traditional methods, even though I tried reeeeally hard!
Pillar 2: Know Your Target Market & Provide Solutions to Their Problems.
You would be surprised at the number of people who have no clue who their target market is..or they know who their target market is, but aren’t providing solutions to their problems…or the only solution then can come up with is their product/service.
If you ask most internet network marketers who their target market is- will respond with something like “network marketers” or “people who want to lose weight” or some other category that’s really general.
It’s going to be hard for you to really make a dent in your target market if you’re going for such a broad group of people.
The way to build a highly responsive list (i.e, one that will buy from you) is to get ultra-targeted.
For example, if you’re selling Moon Juice which is proven to help alleviate 101 different diseases and is all natural. Instead of targeting “sick people” or “people who want holistic solutions to their ailments” You should pick perhaps one ailment, and focus on arthritis sufferers who are looking for a natural remedy. Now THAT’s targeted!
Now, onto the solution provider part… You want to make sure that not only that you provide solutions for sale, but you also want to provide valuable information. So, perhaps your website can have some articles on the various exercises that people can do to alleviate arthritis. Offer a free report on the top 10 natural ways to alleviate pain from arthritis.
To see what people in your target market need, visit forums- see what kinds of questions people are asking, and then answer them either in the forum or in an article, video or report. You need to put yourself in the shoes of your ideal customer, and see what makes them “tick” and what “issues” they are having- and solve those problems or answer their questions! If you don’t know the answer, go find it!
This is how you become an “expert” and how you can earn the trust and respect of your target market.
Pillar 3: You must have a properly monetized sales funnel.
Ok, so trying to write about this pillar in a few sentences is pretty tough…but basically, you need to offer your website visitor something of value (and free), so that they’ll opt-in (i.e, give you their email address and name) to your list.
- If you don’t have an autoresponder or an opt-in form….get one.
- If you don’t have a free gift to give people…get one or create one.
After your visitor consumes the “free offer,” you should immediately offer them a low-cost product.
If you have an autoresponder and an opt-in form, make sure that you have emails in your autoresponder that sell mid-range and high-ticket items as your lead travels further into your funnel.
The key to this Pillar is, although you want to provide value to your list, don’t be afraid to sell stuff to them! AND one you sell one thing to them, don’t be afraid to sell more stuff to them too!
Just don’t go all crazy and pitch them stuff all of the time…after all, they DID opt-in to get more valuable information from you.
Pillar 4: You must know how to drive traffic to your sales funnel.
So many people actually focus only on this Pillar, which is a big mistake.
If you don’t have the first 3 pillars in place, you won’t have a sustainable online network marketing empire. Only after the first three pillars are in place, should you worry about traffic. Once they’re established—by all means- go hog wild driving traffic to your site!
BUT…instead of trying to master 5 different traffic strategies all at one time, I suggest that you focus on one method that you like, get REALLY good at it, and then move on to the next one.
If you dabble in Google AdWords one day, Facebook Ads the next day, Article Marketing the next, and then Social Media Marketing the next day, you’re going to be sub-par at a lot of stuff.
If Facebook Ads excite you- go master the Facebook Ad world, and then once you’ve got a steady stream of leads coming from that source, move onto the next traffic generation strategy. Now that doesn’t mean that you should have social media profiles, because I do believe that is a very important method of allowing people to get to know you. My point is, that when it comes to studying up on a traffic generation, don’t try to be a master at 5 different things all at the same time…master one before moving onto the next.

Investment Mindset
I love your comments about mindset Natasha! I heard this weekend that we ought to "Treat our business as if we invested a million dollars in it." I'm pretty sure that we'd all be in for "whatever it takes" if we invested that much!

Stacia- I love that quote! I'm going to have to use it sometime. Totally agree that people would stop treating their business like a hobby if they treated it like they had invested a million bucks in it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Textbook Advice
Hi Natasha,
Great advice Natasha! Pillar 2, why is it so hard for so many network marketers to get that through their head? Providing a solution FIRST and offering free information is being a true leader will create more followers, customers, and business relationships.
Your advice on how to target a market makes so much sense. I will be putting that to better use.
Thanks again!
Richard
Re: Textbook Advice
Richard-
I was totally surprised to see how many people still don't understand that they need to provide solutions to people's problems. And more importantly, that they can't just give away value without first knowing who their target market is!
Here's what I mean...
Give $20 to a millionaire and they won't view it remotely as "valuable" as the person who is living on the streets.
Value is in the eye of the beholder.
If people would just remember who it is that they are talking to when providing "solutions" they would see far more returns on their investment of time and resources.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Love Stacia's comments on Mindset...
Yes, if we all invested a million dollars into our businesses we would do whatever it takes to grow a thriving business. Because most people don't truly understand leveraged income that they don't see what they have in their hands.
Being a go giver and contributing to others has a magnetic quality to it and will go a long way to creating a tidal wave of followers and people wanting to do business with you.
Fabulous job, Natasha.

Faith-
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and kind words!
Your comment reminded me of what Mike Klingler said at Marketing Funnel Mastery this summer about how your business is just like holding a lottery ticket in your hand.
That's how I've felt and recognizing the power of what you've got right now as a business owner is key!
