In my previous post, I shared why you should be taking creating information products seriously this year and beyond if you want to pull more profit from your business.

So, today, I wanted to talk about some of the common excuses stopping a LOT of marketers from creating their own information products.

Here we go:

1. Fear of Failure

You’ll never know until you do it. If you create a product and sell only one copy, you have done it, you have broken the seal. Then you can do it over and over again and sell more. Don’t get discouraged, get started!

2. For Leaders Only

Many people believe that they need to be leaders or gurus first before they can start creating and selling their own products. Here’s the thing, people see you as you see yourself. If you project the right image and come across as a leader, then people will see you as one.

If you focus on helping others get what they want and succeed, offering value and solutions in the marketplace, you’re a leader. 

There are people out there who crave for your help. Create products and help them get what they want!

3. Perfectionism

Perfectionism stops a lot of people from creating products and pulling extra profit from their business.

A lot of people worry about getting everything absolutely “right”, about knowing everything or learning ALL the skills required before they dive in and get going with creating information products.

If you work on everything to perfection you’re going to be reluctant to try new things like creating your own products because you think it would take a lot of work.

Let go of perfectionism and start helping others and boosting your business with creating information products!

4. No Endorsement From “Top Dogs”

Most people are of the opinion that they would do well with marketing their products if they can get the well-known industry leaders to endorse them.

Admittedly, it would be an added advantage if you had your products endorsed by the top leaders. However, you shouldn’t be discouraged if you don’t get that opportunity at the beginning.

Show them how you have helped people to increase their blog traffic, fans, list, followers etc. with your own product.

They would want to see proof (your own results and testimonials from your customers), before they can put their names on your product.

5. No Product Ideas

Truth be told, most marketers don’t create information products as they think they don’t have amazing ideas, leaving money on the table.

Simply stated, if you have ideas or subjects for your blog posts, articles and videos, then you have ideas for your products! It’s all about sharing what you already know as well as repurposing what you already have.

6. Similar Products 

Some people get discouraged as there are a lot of products on the same topic already out there. Here’s the thing, successful product creation is not about theory.

It’s about sharing the practical steps, tips and strategies that you have implemented to achieve the desired results.

It’s about showing others how you have overcome some challenges or problems to master a certain skill.

It’s about showing people how you have turned your failures into success, so they don’t repeat your mistakes.

Yes, there’s nothing new under the sun, however…

There would be factors that will set your product apart from the existing ones on the same subject, based on your knowledge, skills, experience, price, bonus(es) you offer, the media that you use to deliver your product and so forth. 

And, when a product is in your “voice”, it makes it uniquely yours.

Take Michelle Pescosolido, for example. She made a killing with her newly released Facebook Marketing course.

It’s not the first Facebook marketing product in the marketplace, there are a LOT of them out there, teaching people how to make money on Facebook. Even Jonathan Budd launched his in the past.

Most people have a real difficulty with the whole process of creating information products, from start to finish.
