Marketing Techniques and posting etiquette

Marketing is a beast that changes daily, and there are people out there who have NO clue as to what they are doing.

Once I was this guy, the guy who would post his program or opportunity anywhere it could be read. I scratched my head as to why I could not get any sales, or referrals. Only as of the last 4 months have I learned what I did WRONG. I didn't take into consideration the places I was posting my ads. They were not relevant to the subject, and were viewed as that horrible word: SPAM!

No wonder people were not interested in my offers, I was annoying them by being a relentless, yet clueless, spammer. Once it dawned on me, I was devestated, and immediately stopped everything. I didn't post a link, an ad, or whisper a word of my opportunities for months.

I began my adventure in reading, learning, networking, and asking a million questions. Only when I was ready to write my first email, or create my first ad, did I pick up where I had left off. My Ambition, my energy, and my outlook on internet marketing had totally changed. I was a machine, cleaning off the rust, and heading into the bright blue horizon.

Once I began my adventure I started to notice those ads. You know, those SPAM ads. A post six feet long with banners, or a single line with a link. These were posted in totaly unrelated groups or forums, and annoyed me. I thought, "I actually did this?" Talk about an eye opener and a learning experience.

When I created my ning group I really became retentive about the content on my network. I made it my personal goal to warn spammers, offer my knowledge, and teach them my marketing techniques and etiquitte. Yes etiquitte, marketing is like having dinner. Mind your manners. Don't be rude, Don't interrupt people in conversation with unrelated topics, and wash your hands. ;)

If you are new to internet marketing, pay attention to what the leaders are doing. Who are the leaders? These are the people who will take you by the hand, and show you the way. These are the people that will follow up with you, and check to see how you are doing. They post valuable content, they offer you opportunities without hassling you for your money within the first 10 minutes of conversation. They will provide you with tools, webinars, a network of like minds, and ensure that you will be successfull.

Do not buy into the first opportunity you find. Take time and check out the landscape, see what the world of marketing has to offer you. Find an opporutnity that you can believe in. Something you can be passionate about. Try something you either have a personal interest in, or something that you believe you can deliver to people with sincerity. Anyone can post this "Make a fortune with this hot new program." Is the person posting it making a fortune? Can they prove it? Most likely not, they are just trying to snare the first person that clicks the link. The internet is vast and endless, don't be desperate for that quick money fix.

Programs that promise millions in days are hardly worth the time. If this were possible everyone in the world would be a millionaire. We have to be realistic in our thinking. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is my friend. Do not fall victim to HYPE marketing. I have been a victim of hype marketing, and almost lost $300! Fortunately my experience in business management allowed me to argue my money back with tact.

Become a leader in your field and interest, network with others in the same program even if they are not in your down line. The Team I have created assist one another, share referrals, and help one another in creating a valuable down line and marketing material. These people need to be your friends. Build a relationship, and become intimate with their ideas and progression. You will know when you have met a genuine contact, trust me. They will give you material to read, and educate you on an opportunity before trying to recruit you.

When you begin posting ads and writing emails, think about what you would like to see in an email or in a forum. Posting a bland ad is impersonal, and alienates the audience you are trying to advertise too. Let them know you are here to help, and can provide email, skype or telephone support. Letting someone know that you are a live breating person, gives them comfort and gives you credibility.

Retain your reputation, don't do anything to taint it or you will forever have a stigma on you. Nothing on the internet goes away, so think before you post. Fortunately for me, I was able to get back into the game, repair my reputation, and start networking with experts that helped me. You can do the same. Join a ning network, and seek out those who are posting valuable resources on the networks, and befriend them. Be sincere, and express you desire and interest. Most importantly, if something is not working, ask questions. DO NOT QUIT. I did this quite a bit in my past. I program hopped and NEVER stuck to my guns. Currently I am in 3 Major programs, that have dozens of others branching off from them. I keep creating new original material and tools to assist anyone that would be interested in my opportunities.

I hope that this may provde some insight to my experiences and assist new marketers in their online adventures.

Glad you made the change

Nice to hear from others who converted from the demons of oblivious Marketing.

Yes, once I started doing things "Right" my business and web site both rocketed. I was SHOCKED at the # of people who contacted me and joined my down lines.

I now spend my time learning, and creating tools for my down line to use.

Thank you for the comment Lisa.
May the Universe give you many blessings.
Good day! :)

How To Start Doing Things Right

Hi Ronald,

What a great message, and cool that you're transparent enough to share what you've learned.

So where does this leave the majority of people, especially those beginners and intermediate marketers?

It leaves you to learn HOW TO market; HOW TO create your own fundamental foundation of influence; it forces you to think about, a quote from the great Perry Marshall --

"I've defined marketing as 'helping people who need each other find each other' and that is best accomplished by clearly and effectively communicating who you are, which of course requires that you know who you are in the first place."

The BIG Question you should wake with every morning as you look into the mirror:

What value do you offer?

Value, in the attraction model, is your personality + "the conversation” you invoke or inspire and continually come back to, or the crowd you gather ‘round yourself, which is about the topics, and in alignment with what you enjoy (that’s your business) and doing so using the proper tools and web locations to set it all up (the mechanics of it all).

You have to take time to get familiar with these tools and web locations. You have to give yourself time to mature into these things. Depending on your level of experience, and the challenges you face assimilating to these technical aspects, it can take months.

If you know that, and communicate it effectively, you attract not just the right customers, but the right employees, partners and investors. The consistency and believability of your message is contagious.

BOTTOM LINE:
Decide what value you're willing to give – the promise you can make to yourself, and the others that are inspired to join your “conversation” – then set up the BASIC components FIRST.

That’s the reason we all should be here.

This comes BEFORE you start asking yourself or saying aloud:
• How do I make an additional 500-1000 per month?
• How do I make 10K per month?
• How do I sell 5 ebooks per week?
• How do I get 10-15 new reps in my business per month?
• How do I find a system that does these things for me?

It’s that mindset that keeps you focused on the wrong things.

The only thing that ends up happening when you ask those kinds of questions is you become a consumer – you end up on the other side of transaction than what you want to be.

What an interesting post

What an interesting post Ronald. I was pretty much the same when I first started as well. The important thing is, to continously be moving forward.

Some people don't... they pop up everywhere.

If you were like that originaly, then your progression is HUGE! You have moved on "tremendously". You are a great bloke and an awesome team player!

I wish nothing but success for you.

Joel.
