Some thoughts I didn't include in my book "Work for Nobody"

An expansion on Work for Nobody’s chapter “Business options for the average Joe”.

My book has been out since this summer and is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and most other major retailers. It’s currently on the second revised edition, but I’m already thinking of stuff I left out!

In the aforementioned chapter I laid out some options the average person has to start their own business: franchising, starting your own c-corp, or network marketing. I blatantly disregarded the folks that make tens of thousands every month in affiliate marketing and information product marketing.

After attending a Guru event put on by Eben Pagan this summer I found out that some are putting businesses on by selling a simple information product or ebook. Example: there was a guy who had the hobby of keeping tropical betta fish. Aparently these fish require special care and he decided to write a short ebook on it. He then created a simple website where he offers a free mini course that markets his ebook. The result? A passive income source he doesn’t have to work for, providing thousands of dollars per month. How would your life change with an extra 1, 2, or 5 thousand per month?

If you don’t have the willingness or ability to write an ebook yourself, then sell someone else’s as an affiliate! Enter the world of affiliate marketing. This universe is so huge and yet so undiscovered by the public at large, but you know what? Almost every business does it! Even penny-pinching Walmart has a 4% affiliate program. How does it work? You sign up as an affiliate either directly or through a service provider (this is where the big boys play) like cj.com and start placing banner and text ads where ever you see fit. This could be a blog that specializes on a niche or even a paid banner ad on a site that is frequented by the target audience.
Another way (my preference) is to recommend products from people I do business with and basically get paid for the referral. I make extra cash every month without lifting a finger by recommending Mike Dillard’s marketing courses in my autoresponder emails to my primary opportunity list.

I should also have elaborated on building eBay businesses for the obvious reason that this is where nicole and I started, but you know what? You can’t do it all. But I would like to advise you that my sweetheart of almost 10 years is working on her first publication! Yet another avenue is Real Estate. The barrier to get into this game is made up of education and networking. Whatever the market is doing, professional investors are making money. What you see on the news, doesn’t reflect their reality. The dabblers were wiped out in the recent housing bust, but the pro’s are doing fine. The difference is in knowing what to do and all that keeps people out of this business is excuses.
Don’t have the money? You don’t need to when you leverage other people’s money. Don’t have the knowledge? Get the books and courses to obtain it. Don’t have the experience? Get a mentor to help you get started. Folks like yourself have gone from total standstill to 5 figures per month in a matter of weeks.
