01/23/10 BOOKS
The last issue I wrote about books. This issue I will write about books again. This time I will write about a book club [guideposts.com] which Linda and I joined more than a year ago. It is a standing order which they send monthly and bill us.
I am sure they would offer you different books than those which I describe below, but these are the ones we selected. I can only vouch for the ones we receive, but
there is no sex [although they are full of love], no smoking and no foul language. In other words, you don’t have to be concerned if your child decides to read a similar book from your library.
This series is all about Kate and Paul Hanlon. He is pastor of Faith Briar Church and not only is Kate his wife, she likes to ‘sleuth’ and ultimately solves mysteries.
Escape to the charming town of Copper Mill, TN. Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Copper Mill is a place of tradition and tranquility. But when Kate Hanlon and her husband Paul move in, they find that small town life
is anything but boring. The mysteries Kate uncovers are puzzling. But she always uses her quick mind and the help of her dear friends to figure out the answers. See how faith can solve life’s mysteries in Mystery and the Minister’s Wife.
***************
Mysteries of Sparrow Island; Meet Abigail Stanton, ornithologist, bird-watcher,
and a keen observer who brings a sharp eye to bear on the secrets that lie hidden on Sparrow Island, a place of extraordinary natural beauty in the San Juan Islands. Abby, inspired by hope and faith, has a knack for finding her way into the middle of mysteries full of excitement and intrigue. **************.
Tales from Grace Chapel Inn. Once you visit the charming village of Acorn Hill,
tucked away in rural PA, you’ll never want to leave. Townsfolk relax on their porch swings or gather to discuss the day’s events at the Coffee Shop over homemade pie. It’s the kind of town where friendship and faith flow together like a wide river on a fine spring day.
And you’ll love spending time with the Howard sisters who have begun a new life together in their childhood home, a gracious Victorian house that is now a bed-and-breakfast called Grace Chapel Inn. Here they rekindle old memories, rediscover the bonds of sisterhood, revel in the blessings of friendship and meet many fascinating guests along the way.
