How Article Marketing Works
Article marketing is one of the easiest and quickest ways to drive traffic to a brand new website. It is used by both beginning marketers and multi-million dollar companies.
What is article marketing? How does it work? Let's get a broad overview of the basics.
=> How does it work?
The term "article marketing" actually includes a fairly wide range of different techniques. In the broadest sense, every time you distribute articles with a link to your website in the context of SEO, branding or traffic, you are using article marketing.
Article marketing if done well, can always drive hundreds if not thousands of visitors to your site. Because the more backlinks you get the better you'll score with the search engines. Finally, because people keep seeing your name in different locations all over the net, you build your brand.
=> Why Submit Articles on other people's sites?
Why would you place articles on the websites of others, instead of on your own? There are a few reasons.
First, if your site is relatively new, it doesn't have the weight and reputation that some other sites have. Other sites have backlinks, durability and reputation already.
In other words, the same article, which can be in the top five ranking on the site of someone else won't rank at all when placed on your own website, simply because the site doesn't have the same weight yet. You need to attract a following.
If your article is on someone else's website in your industry, you get to tap into their existing reader base and traffic base.
Finally, the backlinks you get by writing articles for others will make a big difference in your rankings.
The process of article marketing usually looks something like this:
First you start with a title or keyword that you want to target. Then you write a title that will grab attention to bring people from search engines or other sites. The title should be interesting enough to get people to click on the article. The keyword should be carefully chosen in order to maximize search engine traffic.
You write the article, but you need to do some research to complete the process. The final article must be at least 400, but preferably as long as 1000 words.
The article should then be sent to other sites. These may be sites of other bloggers, other industrial sites or just article directories.
If your article is listed it should start a consistent flow of traffic coming from the articles and from search engines.
This is just a brief overview of the process. Naturally, each segment has its own challenges. For example, how do you choose a good keyword? How do you get someone to click on the link to your website? How do you get other bloggers to let you write on their blog?
