How To Reel In Your Reader With An Emotional Hook Using Compelling Sales Copy Techniques.
Found originally in Work From Home Solutions
Even if you had the best product in the world that could help everyone who tried it, if your prospect doesn't stay on your capture page long enough to read about its benefits and become interested, all your efforts will be for nothing.
It doesn't matter whether you're great at sales copy writing or whether you suffer from bad sales copy “itis”, if you lack in internet business training which teaches you how to set the hook and reel your prospect in, your success will be limited.
The next steps will teach you how to set the emotional hook which will attract and keep your readers wanting more.
Whatever it is you are writing about, there are certain Copy Writing Guidelines to consider.
Before you jump into the body of your sales copy, you have to know who your target market is.
Without this crucial step of zeroing in on your specific target, your copy will be too broad, lose the reader and consequently your sale.
Along with deciding who to talk to in your sales copy, you also have to decide what form to use to get your message across. Will you be writing a review, addressing a need or solving a problem? or both?
Before setting your pen to paper, good keyword research is critical. Keep your keyword tool close by as you work on the title, body and closing of your copy. Identifying the key related search phrases and blending them in will only make you more visible to the search engines.
As you brainstorm your topic while keeping your keywords in mind, list several benefits relevant to your topic.
A good strategy is to say “It's about...” and then list all your benefits.
If it's a review you are writing sales copy for, look at giving all the reasons “why”. If you're solving a problem or addressing a need, talk to the person as if they were sitting across from you. Don't forget that in both cases you must show what the reader will gain. Another great tactic is to bring in personal experience when appropriate. This adds a visual aspect that conveys the message much clearer.
Your first draft will not be your final product.
You won't reach this stage unless you have mastered the art of sales copy writing. Even the masters re-write their stuff a few times over before we get to see it.
Your goal is to have many drafts, no matter how sloppy, because each draft can present an opportunity for a new topic from a different angle.
Reading other ads or articles will help you to learn, so pay attention to the emotions the author evokes within you and check out the words used to do that. Keeping a file with these words, known as a swipe file, can be a great help in your writing endeavors.
Internet business training teaches you to answer your prospects biggest question, “what's in it for me?” and appeal to them using emotional triggers.
In creating sales copy driven by emotions based on the power emotions at the core of your product, you will be converting the maximum number of visitors into paying customers.
There are Seven Copy Writing Power Emotions to consider:
-
The fear of loss: The fear of losing something that is important to us is a great motivator. Speak to how your product will overcome that fear by using such words as save, secure, safety, clinch, red flag, defend .
-
Greed: Our desire for what we want will move us to act. Words such as all, amass, money, millionaire, monopolize, results, proven, are a good start.

-
Lust and pleasure go hand in hand and it should be reflected in your copy by choosingwords that evoke that emotion such as compel, attract, love, delicious, tempting, enticing, charming, discovery, health, tempt. -
Vanity: Whole industries have built a fortune around this need to look and feel our best. Some power words to include are attractive, confident, magnetic, younger, stronger, beautiful, you. -
Pride: People love to feel good about something they've accomplished well. Play to this sweet spot by using words like accomplish, master, transform, best, biggest, greatest, money, proven, results, envy. -
Envy: Th
is is an easy emotion to play to especially if you are targeting people that have worked hard all their lives but don't seem to have gotten ahead as they would have wished to. Then words such as desire, covet, begrudge, secret, ordinary, extraordinary, people just like you, will make the impact you want. -
Laziness: Just this morning I heard on the radio a speaker saying how we
want things but don't really want to work that hard for them if we can get away with it. Because you are providing value with your product you can play on this emotion with words like instant access, save time, in less than, break-neck speed, lightning, easy, guaranteed, road map, blueprint, avoid mistakes.
The key is to choose two or three emotions to highlight all through your writing. Using too many may dilute your message. Think and feel as your potential customers would.
Effective and converting sales copy writing is a skill to be nurtured and continuously practiced. To be successful in your online business, a step-by-step process such as the one found inRenegade University and beyond will only accelerate your learning curve toward effectively hooking your reader whenever you bring out the bait.

Writing with Pull
Marie, it was helpful to read your view on good copy writing. Without knowing our target audience it would be hard to write with the right emotion that get the read attention.
Great article.
Knowing what your customer wants
Your have really put it all together. Knowing who we are righting to, what they want, not what we want, and addressing that throughout our copy. That is Key! Copywriting is very tricky but when practiced and studied enough a certain flow will be established. Keeping the people you want to attract in mind always helps to stay focused.

Well...Copywriting Summary in a Nutshell.
Somewhere else here, someone said that we should have a "favourites" button here to highlight posts that you want to find again.
This one is a great summary to refer back to for copywriting tips.

Build Your Foundation Though Copywriting
If there's one skill set that all online business owners must master it's COPYWRITING. Copywriting is about connecting with your target audience in a real and valuable way.
Don't worry about being grammatically correct, yes you should follow basic grammar etiquette but you don't have to write to please your college professor.
It's about connecting and branding with your own unique personality people want to know who YOU are. Nice article Marie, and a good list of emotional triggers to use when writing sales copy.
Being of Service
I think having a mindset of service is a great place to start. If you always keep in mind that you are here to help someone solve their problem, no matter what that happens to be, and you write addressing that need, you always have your focus on them and how you can help them.
Putting it all down in writing is where the challenge can come in. Taking training for this is critical as many of us do not come by this naturally. As mentioned above, having it all grammatically correct is not of top importance, but having a plan to guide your prospective client through to a step by step process to a final goal.
Thanks for sharing this article. Awesome!
Copy writing power emotions.

Target Market

Put Yourself in the Reader's Shoes.
Great article, Marie. Like Rana says, copywriting is a subject many times overlooked. Copywriting is something that can be learned, so I strongly suggest that networkers get good training in this area. Marie, you have obviously learned this subject well.
I like what you say about writing as though the person is sitting directly across from you. I feel we need to put ourselves in their shoes. It doesn't matter if we feel that the prospect needs our products. The big question that needs to be addressed in our writing is "what's in it for them?"
Powerful Words
Marie,
The most powerful part of your article, for me, was the Copywriting Power Emotions. I can see how following thru with one of those emotions would make for great sales copy.
I also latched on to your point about keeping drafts for rewriting articles with a different slant. That's one I've never considered!
Copy

Write as if you were having coffee with a friend and just having a friendly conversation. You have listed many important points to remember when writing copy, another great article to come back to for frequent reviews.
Knowing What They are Already Saying
Great copy is the key as you point out. Knowing not to "dilute" the message and meaning of your copy is so important. When people get off topic in a copywriting articles - it makes people want to click off the information.
