If Making Money Doing Something You Love From Home Is Your Goal, Then Turn Your Hobby Into A Business...

I'm going to discuss how a person can make money around their hobby, or something they love doing. There are a lot of people who want to have a job that is fun and filled with excitement. We all want something we can enjoy doing all day long, instead of watching the clock. You can start your own "work at home" business, doing something that makes you happy.

You'll find that if you can take your hobby and make it into something that you can do for a living, you'll be more satisfied. You may find that your hobby can be turned into a profitable business. But all hobbies may not be a good business, so here are things to consider.

Even though, with dedication, you can make money doing what you love, but will it give you the income you want, or need is another question?  So start by evaluating your hobby, and determine if it would be profitable for you. If your hobby involves making some sort of product, such as jewelry, you may be able to directly sell the pieces.

You may want to offer services related to your hobby. Say you love gardening, become a source for information on gardening, even recommend books, and gardening products that you can become an affiliate for. You can also start a yard working business in your community. Possibilities are endless if you use your imagination. You can sell bulbs from your own garden, or write an eBook on growing a vegetable garden. As you start thinking you'll find there are no limits as to what you can do when starting a new business.

You will need to use some resources to turn your hobby into a business, but it's not anything out of reach. You'll need to determine if your idea is plausible. Ask friends, family, professionals, and other entrepreneurs who are knowledgeable to give you feedback on your business idea before you dive in.

Once you are convinced you have a good product or service idea, use the Internet as a tool. You'll want to go online and find some articles that can help you start your business, and you may want to use the internet as a sources of advertising to reach a larger customer base.

Research the internet to see what others are offering in the way of information or products for your hobby, and see what you can offer that would have great value, so you can attract those customers. In business it's okay to copy what works.

If your hobby has a wide international appeal, then you will want to learn how to use the internet effectively to attract customers. On this website you'll find information on Internet Training, and I recommend you consider learning Internet Attraction Marketing.

Remember all hobbies will not make a good business. Even though your hobby may be something that you enjoy, you have to be able to take your fun ideas and make it into a business. You will want to make sure that you love what you are doing, because it can lower some of your stress from starting a new business. You will also want to think of starting small. If your business gets out of hand with growth, you will risk it all and you won't be able to keep up with your demand and supply ratios.

You should always start off a business with a business plan. Even if this is still a hobby, you will need a business plan so that you can lay out all your goals and clearly define your company. You will find that a hobby can be easily transformed into a business as long as you take the time to plan and organize while using some imagination.

So take the following steps:

  1. Make a business plan around your hobby...

  2. Determine how many people are searching for information about your hobby, using the internet...

  3. Find articles and other websites that cover information about your hobby, to see how you can develop your business, and present your product and information...

  4. Get some business and internet training...

  5. Review the information on this website...

Love Your Work

It's not really work when you do what you enjoy, and it's even better if it's your own business. Rallie your 7 steps is an important list to follow, especially #6 (Find a mentor) and #7 (Never give up)!

This is a great Idea

Rallie

Many people really struggle with finding a way to make some extra money especially from home. What a great idea to take something they already know and understand and make an extra income from it. You have done a great job in laying out a step by step plan anyone can follow.

Your first step of making a plan is so important to business success that it is an absolute must to get put in place. Having a hobby and running a business is as different as night is from day. With a hobby, if something is fun and interesting that is often enough. With a business, you better figure out how to give value and make a profit or frustration and failure may soon appear. Even with a good plan, success is not guaranteed but it really increases the odds in your favor.

Creative Energy.

Sometimes it takes really creative energy to see how what you do for fun or as part of your artistic/resourceful side of life can be a business.

I think getting good council and exercising due diligence in research is very important before you launch into the unknown.

Having said that, there is no limit to entrepreneurial creativity to carve out a new market niche.

Enjoy Life

Not that many people can say that they enjoy what they do for a living, maybe that's way people have hobbies because it's something that they enjoy doing outside of work.

Rallie you've laid out a great outline to follow when deciding if your favorite hobby would be a viable business endeavor. I think having a plan and doing your research when deciding if your hobby can make money for you should be your main concern.

check list.

Good idea to have a check list to research your hobby, see if it is viable for a business and then make a business plan. It would b a shame to put a lot of energy into a business that just doesn't have an audience large enough to support a healthy business.

It's all about passion

If you love what you are doing and have a real passion for it, success will follow. Passion will help you get over the humps that come with any new endeavor.
Thanks Rallie.
Great helpful information

Hobby And Business

Rallie,

I like how you put hobby and business together. In actuality its a great concept, "Making money from a hobby you do at home". You know, I bet a lot of people never thought of it in that sense.

I know for sure, many people are just don't think... But, you have really laid it out for them to see with their own eyes. That their possibilities are endless, only if they let their imagination travel...

Thanks For Sharing,
Donna Wells

Doing What You Love

It really doesn't get any better than that, doing what you love and being able to make a living doing it. I have been so blessed to do just that. For the past 13 years I have worked at home, doing something I love and being able to support myself and my daughter. Like you said, this is great!

Now, with the Internet, I can take my business world wide and offer it to many more people than I could if I just stayed in my own area.

Thanks for this great article and to anyone reading this, go for it. If you can dream it and imagine it, you can achieve it.

Loving What You Do On Steroids

You're so right , Rallie. Why not be passionate about what you?

The passion becomes contagious and attracts like-minded indidividuals your way. Now if you are so talented as being able to have a product that is appreciated, you are the greater for it imaginatively and the richer for it monetarily.

The Internet is really the only way to put your passion on steroids and get the results you seek but first you have to learn how it's done from those who have been there and done that.

A business with Passion

Creating a business with passion is something we all want to do. But as you pointed out Rallie, not all direct passions are for business. Researching what people want in your niche or passion is key. If people aren't asking then you may be out of business before you start.

Learning to fine tune that passion is the key digging deep, then you have passion on steroids.

Being able to love what you are doing makes life less stressful. Product and ideas become effortless.

Research is the Key.

Rallie,

Great article. I completely agree with you. Doing something you love greatly improves your chance for success.

I feel that taking the time to do research is critical to your success using your hobby. Go on the internet and check out your hobby. Get on forums and message boards. Find out what questions are not being answered and what problems are not being solved. Then establish a business that answers those unanswered questions and solves those problems.

Go to Google and Yahoo. Find out where there are gaps in the market. Look for products that are needed but are not available in the marketplace. Then, provide those products.

Look for trends related to your hobby. Then provide products or services that meet the needs of those trends.

Thanks, Rallie.

Be Passionate!

Good point to bring up, Rallie, about loving your hobby. If you aren't passionate about your Hobby/Business, that will come through when dealing with your clients. The best advice you can give someone about "selling" is if you love your product or service, then selling comes naturally. It's when you don't - is when convincing others that your product is the best can take a nosedive!

Making My Hobby a Business Is High On My List

My hobby is Photography. Many people have told me to "go pro" but i have been waiting for...something. Your ideas on researching you hobby first are very important for people to hear. I know a few people that have taken a hobby and tried to make a businesses out of it to just find that nobody is willing to pay for their services. It is important to know before jumping into something if it is a service or product that people are looking for.

Great thought provoking ideas Rallie!

A Guy without a Hobby

Thanks everyone for your great comments. I'm a guy without a hobby I thought.
My business career as an owner of a manufacturing business didn't leave me time for a normal hobby. People don't always think helping other achieve success is a hobby, but most of my life I found it reward to help others succeed. So I guess that's my hobby...
