3 Simple Steps To Email List Building

Read More: Blogging

You are already getting some traffic to your website or blog but you would like to keep those readers as loyal subscribers, right? Well your site might be working against you.

These 3 simple steps can generate tons of subscribers!!

  1. Turn your About Me page into a lead generating machine
  2. Convert readers into subscribers after they read your content
  3. Tweak your sidebar to get more newsletter signups

Turn Your About Me Page Into A Lead Generating Machine

Most of the top bloggers will tell you that their About Me page generates more visits than any other page. Why not use that traffic to generate more leads? Simple. Ask your readers for their email address. Strategically place an opt-in form throughout your About Me information to offer your reader the chance to subscribe while they are enjoying your story. More specfically, add the opt-in after you have primed the reader for your website content and again after your personal back story.

Convert readers into subscribers after they read your content

Assuming that your reader has completely read your article or blog post then it’s safe to say they found value in your content, right? Now what? Well they’re looking for something else to do. Simple. Ask for their email address. This is the perfect time to keep them as a loyal reader. You could promote another article but wouldn’t it be better to have their email address and keep them as a reader for the long haul? Think about it. If the reader likes you enough to read your entire article or blog post then they won’t mind parting with their email address.

Tweak your sidebar to get more newsletter signups

Are you overwhelming your readers with widgets, badges, links or other clutter? If so, your sidebar could be working against you and you are losing email subscribers. Not only are they major distractions from your main goal of getting email subscribers but it could look desparately tacky. I haven’t seen the top bloggers promoting with all that clutter, have you?

The less options you give people, the more likely they’re going to take action. ~Derek Halpern

Every sidebar should have at least 3-4 sections to keep from overwhelming your readers.

  • A newsletter sign-up at the TOP of your sidebar. They can decide to give you their email address or not. Once they make that decision they can browse through the rest of your sidbar or your content.
  • Have “Social Proof”. This doesn’t mean you have to have large numbers of subscribers. You can simply say that your articles or posts are “popular”. Of course if you do have large numbers of subscribers or were featured in magazines or anything like that you should mention it. It will build your credibility too.
  • Have a search bar to allow your reader to find what they are looking for within your content. Maybe your most recent article or post is at the top of your posts but they are looking for a post they were reading earlier and wanted to go back to it. This is a loyal reader and they like you. That is a good thing!!
  • Ads if you are monetizing this way. But remember not to overwhelm the readers. Just like Derek Halpern said … Less Is More.
