5 Things You Should Do To Promote Your Blog
If you’re reading this article, you either have a new blog or you’ve got one that is in no-man’s land in terms of visits. Since the launch of the Empower Network on October 30, 2011, there are about 13000 new blogs that came up in less than 60 days! When it comes to a blog or website, ‘if you build it, they will come’ does not apply here. You have to go let everyone know you’re here – your target market, friends of your target market, and most definitely search engines. With this post, I’m going to share how to promote your blog so that you can increase targeted traffic and establish the yellow brick road to your blog!
Have a daily plan to promote your blog
Everything starts with a plan! Determine your daily plan to promote your blog and WRITE IT DOWN! One of the things I learned from my good friend - The Gold Medal Marketer - Andrea Bolder – was the way to write out a plan! It is good to have a WRITTEN checklist of activities that you will commit to do daily. You can get a great blogging checklist here!
Here are some examples of activities to promote your blog:
Write one new page of content per day Comment on 10 niche-specific blogs per day Syndicate to 10 social bookmarking sites per day The activities above are specific and concrete. Devise a plan for success, not for comfort. Will you get to the end of your day and realize you haven’t commented on those blogs? Yes! Then you have to make a choice. Comment on those 10 blogs or watch a great episode of Law and Order.
Blog and Forum Commenting will promote your blog
Commenting on other blogs and in forums helps to give you exposure. These are not spammy type comments. Give good comments that speak to the author. One method I use in commenting is to pick out one or two things I like out of the article, and specify that in my comment. Example: I like how you talked about using attraction marketing to build your audience. This shows that you actually read the post, and you’re not just looking to promote your blog. Normally when you visit other bloggers, they will visit your site as well. With forum commenting, again provide useful comments, and ASK QUESTIONS. This is a yummy way to get exposure. Ask questions and answer questions. You will become smarter and build your reputation at the same time!
Respond to your comments to promote your blog
This is a little ‘ninja’ trick to promote your blog. This is what happens. When you respond to those who have left comments, it counts as a comment. If you have 5 people leave a comment, and you respond to all 5 comments, you will have 10 comments on that blog post. When other people stop by and see there are 10 comments, they suddenly become interested in what’s going on, because there are 10 comments, and they want to add their 2-cents worth.
Build your list to promote your blog
Make sure you have an opt-in box on your blog, and encourage people to sign up. You have to make them some compelling offer. Believe me, it is REALLY exciting when you get your first signup. It is SUPER exciting when you get to 100, and UBER exciting when you get to 1000. All jokes aside, it is better to have a list of 10 loyal readers than 100 fly-by-nighters. When you share something valuable with your readers, they will share it with others!
Networking will promote your blog
Networking is a crucial business activity. The will always remain constant, and applies to the internet as well. Find the top blogs in your niche and get to know them. Leave comments for the author. Ask questions. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS! Set a goal to find 30. I know some of you just cringed. That’s OK. If the thought of that makes you shrink up, get out of business now. Again, as I stated before, leave HELPFUL comments. Don’t just ask the guru to ‘help you out’. A great way to accomplish this is to subscribe to their RSS feed and get on their email list. Learn from the people who are more successful than you! My first call to action to you is this: Promote your blog! It will help build your online presence and generate traffic. Increased traffic will definitely increase lead generation, which translates into more sales.
