Are You Not Blogging Yet Because You Don't Know Where to Start? Here's a Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Wordpress Blog

Read More: Blogging

Blogging isn’t necessary for everyone in network marketing, and there are certainly a variety of methods available to market online, including article marketing and social networking.

But for a powerfully easy way to begin building your presence, blogging is something that should at least be considered.

You don't need to be a pro at copywrighting to get started, and with the best blog authoring platform, you can do it without knowing PHP or even HTML.

In fact, a large percentage of your prospects may not have these skills, particjularly if they have been building their business using traditional methods. So you can begin by doing something that will give you a platform to be able to offer them value and help them out as well.

If you plan on blogging for the long term then you'll defeintely want to host your own blog, but if you're just not sure and want to give it a try, the same Wordpress editor and control panel that you may have available at your own hosting site is also available for free at Wordpress.com. I highly recommend the Wordpress platform for blogging for several reasons, including the ability to track visitor stats, vet comments and a host of other features.

However, let me stress that you should take this introductory step as a temporary one for learning, and be sure to read "If You Are Serious About Your Business, Do Not Use Wordpress.com" to find out why.

So, if you haven't tried blogging yet for fear of it being difficult, or just not knowing where to start, here are a few 5 minute videos that will let you see just how simple it is.  With only the basics tools you will have the ability to create a simple, customizable blog. If you have just started there may even be a tip in here you might find helpful.

These videos begin with the assumption that you have either created your free account at Wordpress.com, or have access to your Wordpress dashboard through your hosting service. When you create the title of your blog, it is not permanent and can be changed later.

Each video has an option for you to save the it locally if you want to reply it a few times until you are comfortable with that topic. Also, I apologize for having my  screen resolution larger than I realized, so you may have to scroll to see the far right or bottom of the screen in some cases

Part 1 – Intro to the Dashboard and Adding a New Page

Part 2: Editing Pages

Part 3- Adding Posts

Part 4 – Themes

Part 5 – Widgets

Part 6 – Text Widget and HTML

Part 7 – Wordpress Comment Moderation

Part 8 – Statistics

There is great support in the Wordpress.com forums area, and also has some more tutorial videos which are great if you want to explore that once you get comfortable with the basics. If you really get stuck, emailing support@wordpress.com can be helpful as well.

Happy Blogging!

PS – Here is some sample HTML code that you can use for adding links into your Text Widget – just replace the href=” text with your own URL, and the text with your own text.

Oh Dear!

Thanks, I will check it out... What browser are you using? I've used Firefox and Safari on the Mac and no problem there -- anyone else? Which browser/versions seem to work and any that don't ? I will have to send a note to techsmith / screencast where these are hosted (I would have put them on youtube but need to convert from swf to something first, and not sure with the screen size that they would be clearly visible :(

Thanks for the heads up!

Oh ya Google Loves wordpress blogs!

This is a realy great post Vicki.
I tell you I would have zero presence online
without my wordpress blogs.
I read BOAB 18 months ago and Mike had blogging
as one of his methods for BOAB.
Even at that my young web master friend had
to drag me into it.
This may give some hope..I'm a 54 year old
technophobe and the back end scared the hell out of me.
I never did learn the "back end" and don't want to.

Using a word press blog is super simple people
once it's set up.

I hope what I say below here is OK Jason.
I know you are watching.
IF ANYONE NEEDS A BLOG ..AND I MAKE NO MONEY FROM THIS
YOU CAN CONTACT ME AND I'LL CONNECT YOU WITH VINCE.
Vince built my blogs in one night.
He can build you a fully optimized open source
wordpress blog with all the right plugins via
Jack Humphrey...any theme you want which google will
notice in my case weeks.
At that point the content is up to you.
As far as content goes I am a huge reader
which really helps.
I read inside BN almost daily now and if you
need content folks watch Ty Tribble's video
where he teaches how to piggy back on others
valuable content.
He also gives you 2 sites he uses to well..steal info.
He even says that he does not have time for
writng his own posts often.
Reviews work great also.

I went from being completely intimidated of a blog
to now completely loving my blogs.
Maybe it's because I am very opinionated.
I use my personal blog for those topics I like
to write about or just share value about things I like.
My marketing blog started 4 months ago is a pr1 now
in 4 months but that takes more thought since it's
about helping folks and adding value as is taught in BN.

Also folks a great guy to learn from is Jack Humphrey.
Get on his news letter.
Anyway I hope this helps some.

Think Personal Branding...

I guess you do give a good example here of piggybacking, but I have to say that you should be sure that you also provide your own value and content or you'll be unsuccessful at personal branding!

Of course if anyone needs help with blogging, social media marketing and personal branding, feel free to contact me anytime at 4-Vicki-411-0 ((484) 254-4110) and i will be happy to provide you with plenty of free training!

Wishing You Brilliant Success,
Vicki
