Pack Your Bags, Its Time To Abandon The Earth

The gold rush of the nineteen century witnessed a massive population shift. New towns sprang up around the mines while hundreds of other towns closed down because their young men and women moved enmass to the minefields.

Another mass movement seems to be in the offing but this time, it is likely to be a move that will lead to abandoning dear old mother earth.

One of the presidential candidates in the upcoming USA election, Newt Gringrich made a proposal he wants to accomplish if his is elected as the next president of the United States of America. He proposed to establish a USA colony on the moon.

This sounds like a farfetched idea but one of the early ideas that man thought was far fetched was a statement JF Kennedy made in the early sixties. He said that in the next ten year that America will put a man on the moon but they did it in nine years.

The problem with Gringrich proposal is what it will stimulate in the mind of the Chinese, Russians and may be Europeans. This is like a signal from the US that the earth is dying and it is time to start abandoning the earth.

The rush for the moon Real Estate is about to start. The big question is how do we partition it to accommodate every nation presently on the earth? Will the Chinese be willing to share if they get there before 2020, which is the year Gringrich wants to establish the next State of the USA on the moon?

How do we resolve who gets what and the territorial dispute that may arise? The moon can take less than ten percent of the earth’s population even if scientists are able to figure out how to solve the gravity issue and lack of air on the moon.

The indirect message is clear. We humans are causing more harm to the earth than ever before. If we have started thinking of establishing a colony on the moon, then this is a call for citizens of developing nations to take the issue of global warming more seriously.

Because the moon cannot take all the citizens of the developed nations, then they too should start taking the issue of Global warming more seriously.

In 2011 alone, more than twenty natural disasters each causing damages worth more than one BILLION US dollars happened round the earth. Some of them were attributed to global warming.

Imagine the huge resources we would have saved and used to make the earth a better place if we gave attention to the issue of global warm.

The earth belongs to all of us but the moon can only take a few of us. You must decide to play a role in ensuring that a day does not come when we would all have to abandon the earth. The day when we would be forced to choose those that will survive and live on the moon; and those that will die with the earth.

To prevent the earth from being abandoned, make a conscious effort to do something that will reduce global warming today.
