Pave the way for your Blog
Now that you have your Blog up and running; maybe even a few articles posted.
Who is your audience?
Let us pave the way for your blog for the entire world to see. Here are a few suggestions and as you grow with your blog, you will learn other ways to promote you and your blog.
RSS - add this widget to your blog. This is usually located in your appearance section of your blog dashboard. This sweet little tool allows you and others to track favorite websites. Many know this as a “bookmark”.
You can spend hours each day looking up your favorite sites that you have bookmarked. I recommend www.google.com/reader The google reader will send newly posted items/articles of your favorite bookmarks. This will allow you to visit one site and read all your favorite RSS feeds you subscribe too. A real time saver.
Social Media is the hottest topic today. You turn on the TV and news channels as CNN, MSNBC, and FOX just to name a few and believe me there are thousands of businesses use this avenue to advertise.
- Your time is valuable so don’t get caught up in the social media get-together. Your goal is to meet new people and share your newly created blog. There might be a new technology tool you found or someone shared with you and you want everyone to know about it. This surly will increase your friend list. They do love new tools to play with.
- When sharing your blog with others, most people send the link to their blog. There is nothing wrong with this, however if there is an article that you think is of interest to others, just post the link to the article. If they like what they read then they will probably hang around a bit to see what else you have to say.
- In my previous article I talked about searching for other bloggers in your Niche. If you have established a relationship with another blogger, you can request to be linked with an article. Now let me be very clear here. Your article should add value or be news worthy to the reader or even the other blogger.
- One thing you do not want to do is Spam your friends on Facebook or followers on Twitter. This is a sure way to lose contacts. Remember sharing an article or news worthy item can bring value to you as a person.
Forums are another great source for visibility. There are literally thousands on a wide range of topics. Google your favorite product or service or even your favorite hobby and join. The goal is building relationships.
Each time you make a post your signature will appear at the bottom of all your comments. The more you participate in the discussions, the more people will see your link in your signature. People are generally curious people and will click on your link just to see what you are selling. Hopefully they buy from you or join your team. This is probably the best free advertising you could hope for.
Email Signatures is the most common tool people use today. I highly recommend doing this immediately. Remember posting article links verses blog link brings more value.

Blog v. Article
Thanks for this Susan. Like the google.com/reader tip. Have to say I think I probably blur the lines between blogs and articles; I post everything to my blog. Are there any arguments for seperating these out apart form increased exposure via different sites? Dee
Blog v Article
Hi Denise
Not sure I understand your question. You can design your blog with multiple pages. Just grab the widget from the menu under appearance. Maybe this will help with separating your blogs from articles post on different subjects.
Here is a great Youtube video about the google reader

Widget question
Hi Susan
I asked about separting articles from blogs way back as a newbie and now understand the significance of using both tools for marketing in conjunction with each other a lot better (exposure, branding, link building, syndication, traffic driving to blog, etc)
But am curious about the widget you refer to - "menu under appearance"? What do you mean?
Thanks D

Oops ignore the silly question, I just went back over your article here! I'm onto it now! Just shows how you pick up different titbits from the same information sources as you progress!
